I still have the two CMP sold me late 90's. Came w/ Palma rears, Olympic fronts, rail & handstop, barrel blocks for the old Redfield 3200 or Lyman STS type scope. The rifle's a beast, 28" fat bbl, single shot, heavy. They're very accurate but the stock is horrible, like a big log. H&R produced the same action & trigger in a commercial version, the model # of which I can't recall. CMP sold most of these unused in the original plastic bags. There was a lot of cosmoline that had to be cleaned from the bolts & triggers to work right.

Hr m12

I have one too Art. These were the best deal the CMP had at the time I bought mine 3 years ago at $225 each ! These rifles are big and very heavy, but that's what I like about them. They are very stable in position with very good accuracy. I tested mine on NRA smallbore silhouettes at twice their normal distances with predicatble and satisfying results.
These rifles give nothing away in terms of quality when compared to more expensive heavy .22s like the Win52, or Kimber 82G.
The market price for these is still a bargain at around $500 with sights.
With the Kimber 82G still in stock for $600 at the CMP, the HR M12 will remain a less expensive equvilent in terms of quality and accuracy.

Art,
The Mod 12 is a good rifle. It was meant to simulate shooting the M1, from what I understand. ALL OF THIS IS FROM MEMORY! It weighs around 12 pounds. Has Redfield Palma rear and Redfield Olympic front sights. Fully adjustable trigger. Full length rail. The stock is not pretty, just bulky like a Super Match M1A stock. The commercial model was designated Mod 5200. When I was shooting NRA High Power with the M1A, I did just about all my practicing with this rifle.
