I regret passing on a MAS .22 back in the eighties. My local GS had a bunch of them , I think they were sub 200.00 back then. After they sold out there were no more and the self butt kicking began.

I only keep one, it's a Sako M78. Built like a high power and deadly accurate. Topped with a Leupold 3.5-14 vari X III.

I don't see one here so I guess I gotta represent the Marlin Papoose 70p. This was my first firearm and after the abuse and neglect of my teenage years it took a lot of replacement parts to get it running. |

Here are a couple of my favorite .22 handguns.
First up is a Service Model Ace conversion kit, pre-Series 70. I picked this up because my Colt Ace is mint and unfired, and I wanted one to shoot. It came with two mags, both very early. One is a two tone. I also have another dozen or so Ace mags as my Marvel conversion uses them, too.
Next up are a couple of my High Standards and an original Buckmark. The Supermatic Citation is my favorite .22 to shoot.
Here is my mint, unfired 1937 Colt Ace. |

Had some time with my Tavor TAR21 and tried to fit a 10/22 but its too wide. So my Marlin 795 .22LR went in and fits really well.
It's about 27-28 inches long
Weighs about 10-12 lbs.
I'd say its about 90% done.
I just need to:
Add the trigger linkage.
Hollow out a magpul magazine.
Paint the ejection port black
Add epoxy steel putty around the barrel and the action to prevent movement
Cut out a window for the serial number

10/22 into M14 EBR
Things to do:
Clean up the ejection port and the internals
Paint the eject port area black
Touch up paint any thats not black
Hollow out the M14 magazine
Shave around the M14 magwell area so the Ruger magazine can slide in
Add epoxy putty to bed the barrel
Drill out holes in the M14 receiver and use extended retaining pins through the Ruger's action/receiver to prevent movement
Fix the handguard area.
Add better looking iron sites
Pin the stock

Here are a couple of my Favorite .22's, A S&W K22 Masterpiece [5 screw] and a S&W model 41 [mid 60's production]. the K22 is in very good shape and has a 4 digit serial number, and I do have the original grips for it.

When I was a kid I used to drool over a browning t-bolt and the then FN mauser action brownings with the semi stepped bbls with plain buttplate w/o white spacers and other crap, classics. Never did get one, way out of my price range and by the time I had the money a browning was just not a browning anymore but a chinese copy. But my dad could afford a Remington boys model 514 I dearly love. I got it on my 5th bday I have it to this day.It needs a new extractor,FP and spring im sure. And given the # of rounds down the tube the chamber has a small bulge @ the extractor cut (but riflings perfect) Im hoping chamber bulge can be swaged out.It taught me to shoot,my sons and every nieghbor kid who's folks Oked it.Its nearly its 50th
b day so I suppose if its gonna teach my grandkids(If they ever come) its gonna need some TLC which it will get regardless of whether I have to reline to fix the bulge in chamber.50 yrs ago even the cheapest remington RF was all steel and real walnut that would put most of todays sporters to shame. Also have a winchester 190 I thinkn it is.
Utilitarian is the nicest word I can think of.Accurate enough, reliable enuf, will put rabbits on the table but so will the rem 514 even tho the stock is about a foot short.LOL
