US marked Winchester model 52D

Up for your viewing pleasure is another beautiful example of a vintage wood and blued steel military rifle! This is a CMP purchased rifle with all the proper paperwork. It has a Redfield International rear sight and a Redfield Olympic front sight. It is also electro-penned with "U.S." above the serial number. The rifle shows very little use and has been well cared for over the decades. It's just a classic small bore target rifle and I'm looking forward to taking this beauty to the range in the near future!

Very nice.
Reminds me of times past on an indoor range.
I can still smell the musty odor of the shooting mats as they are unrolled on the floor.
Thanks

Hard to believe today, but there WAS a time when every high school in the US had a half dozen, or so, of these in the basement, and the kids there were avid competitors in an ancient and honored sport.

She's a BEAUT!!

Absolutely a very nice beautiful Winchester! I actually was just talking to some young fellas at work about marksmanship programs at many schools.

Thanks from kabanchik

Very nice.

Great training rifles from years gone by.

Reminds me of the Remington 513T that my Dad first taught me to target shoot with back in 1965.

Later in 1968 used the same rifle to qualify for my BSA Rifle and Shotgun merit badge.

Rifle would still be in the family had it nÚt been stolen some 10 years ago.

Also trained with a German single shot training K98 (i think) in 22LR.

Exact size and weight as the German issue K98 just in 22.

Thanks for the memory.

Very nice. I have a similar one.

Your handstop is backwards.

WOW, almost a perfect black rubber butt pad, most of them on the US marked 52D's are falling apart due to age. I've been looking for one of those hand stops for about 2-years now for my US marked 52D...

I'm not convinced that the Redfield International was the issued rear sight on these rifles, I know on the B's and C's the issue rear sight was the Olympic, maybe by the time the D's came out it was an International, but one reference, U.S. Martial .22RF Rifles by Thomas Bartha, notes that on the B,C & D, "Sights are usually a set of Redfield Olympic model apertures." My US marked 52D came to me the same as yours, International rear, Olympic front.

Beautiful rifle. I shot one as a visitor to a rifle team practice YEARS ago. The only time I have ever been out-shot by a girl. Regards, Clark

The Redfield International rear sight may not have been issued with the rifle, but damnation, it sure looks cool.

High School Students used to ride the subway to matches with their rifles. Different days for sure.
My brother and I used to shoot .22's in the backyard of my dads friend. This bordered the Pilgrim State Mental Hospital property in Islip.

Thanks from ConRich

Beautiful rifle! I actually found one today at my LGS and bought it. It did not come with the handstop or sights. It did however come with a Redfield 20x scope.

I used to compete with one WAY back in my youth. If you don't place all your rounds through a single hole I'm going to be very disappointed with you!
