Curious if anyone out there has information on a Wards Westernfield model 62 .22 cal bolt action single shot rifle. I picked one up the other day for half a c note. It will fire short, long and long rifle ammo, cb's too. Once loaded, the hammer is pulled back by a knob on the breech end of the rifle and its ready to fire. I found something about it being a Stevens model 83 produced for Wards. No serial number on it so it is pre 1968. Curious as to the manufacture dates of these rifles and any other interesting info or stories about the guns. I will be using it for rodent control with cb shorts once I get the sights zeroed in. Fun gun to shoot for sure!

Its from the 1930's, I believe it was short lived, only about 4 years. My Grandad had one he kept in the barn for rats. One of his plow horses stepped on it and bent the barrel. They were some BIG horses, he cut the barrel off and silver soldered a front sight on it and it was good as new. I have no idea what happened to it.

This one has a full factory barrel so I know its not your granfathers, but the trigger gaurd on this one has seen better days. It has numerous dents in it and dont have a clue how they got there. Maybe the guard can be reshaped to be round again.
Thanks hammer1 for the info and story and those really must have been BIG horses.
