Veterans Day Special

So I was sitting here by myself a little depressed. Multiple let downs here recently, I'm probably going to have to chop off a toe eventually, and I'm beside myself missing a friend. Anyway what's a Vet going to do? Well going to the gun shop might cheer a person up? So I go.
Now I've been jonesing for a nice 22mag rifle for a while now. I had some money and I asked what they had. They pull out one like the one in this video I found on youtube:

http://youtu.be/s7ZUpmVSsik

I couldn't help myself. I got several different types of ammo to try and some new Leupold rings for a 4-12x40 Redfield I had laying around. It's beautiful little rifle. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Really Sorry To Hear That, Brother!

I've had about a dozen people today wish Me...Happy Veteran's Day!...and I keep thinking that there's a 'Dis-connect' In That!

There Is A Lot Of Sadness For Me Too Associated With Veteran's Day...So I Think I Understand Where You Are Coming From....

The Best I Could Come Up With Today, Having Lunch and Then Dinner With Veteran Friends...Is To Say...

On This Veteran's Day...THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!

I hear you. I spend every day alone (but with my dogs, and that's good). I even went and got my free Applebee's burger alone, and it was great!

Oh yeah, and I am about to crash completely financially-really soon. Being in grad school has just about washed me up it feels like.

Life can only get better soon.

Awards Showcase

The Iraq Vet(and friend!)that I am trying to 'mentor', and I were going to go to Applebees here, but He heard about a locally-owned place, 'Poorboys' Restaurant, that was offering 'Free' for Vets...
We went there instead...they gave us a FREE 10 oz Filet!
Seriously! (they said sorry, not the 18 oz or the 24 oz, just the 10oz! )
So, Needless to say...We had a couple of Brews TOO, and left a BIG Tip!
It was good to see all the Vets come in wearing WWII !, Korea, VN, AND Iraq/Afghanistan Ops Hats, Jackets, Pins!
The Waitress Asked Us...Are You Veterans?
We Said Yes, Do You Need Any 'Proof'?
No, She Said...Just You Saying So....

Wow...
I Guess That's What I Love About WYOMING!

Sounds like a good time! I would have spent it with the cats and dog myself watching tv but I lucked out and one a spot on a five hour fishing charter. A marine vet that owns a charter boat had a contest. One guy from each branch one, I happened to be the first to reply from the army. Sorry to say to all the other branches I crushed them like they were not even on the boat. Lol. Won a hundred dollar pool for biggest fish but handed it to Captain Jeff along with the hundred dollar tip we came up with. He needed it, on the way in he blew a serpentine belt on one of the engines. I have not won anything since third grade 1973. I was due. Met a couple of nice guys that did not whine about the 30 mph winds. Just got lucky today I guess.

I'm in a raffle at the VFW for an AK. The drawing is today. If I won that, it would be the first time in a long time I won anything myself. We'll see if I can find a moment to shoot the Savage.
I doubt it though. This is crunch time and all the deer hunting whack jobs are frantic to sight in prior to the hunt. Being the RO I have to watch them all like a hawk. Seems safety goes out the window this time a year.

I never go out on Veterans Day. I always say I'm going to, but I already get so much having service connected disability, I feel guilty getting a freeby. I still feel guilty getting what I get. Besides I'm not in the mood anyway. Which reminds me I should swing by the cemetary and visit dad.

Well I guess I didn't win the AK, but I'm a winner with this Savage I bought. I had 10minutes to get a rough zero and try 4 different brands of ammo for accuracy testing. The winner hands down for me was the Remington Premier 33gr accu-tips. All I had today was to 50yard range since I was working. My first 3 shoots where threw the same hole I slightly dropped the 4th shot cutting the hole slightly larger and being I was rather excited I seriously pulled the 5th shot with a total group size just under 1/4" at 50yards. I'm happy. Given some real range time with this rifle, I'm thinking I'm going to enjoy it.

Runners up in ammunition were the 30gr V-Max from Hornady, Fiocchi 40gr JSP both less than an inch at 50 yards. But the real disappointment was Winchester Supreme 34gr JHP. They went 2.5" at 50yards! The Savage does not like them at all, but AMT Automag II does. Funny how 22mag rimfires are prone to be finicky.

More on this when I get out to the 100yd and beyond. That will probably be Friday.

Sorry to here about your blues. But when I'm down, I tell my self no matter how bad I think I have it. Some where some one has it worse.

Next to the M1-A I go Savage. I really like that stock.

I spent the 11th at the Reno gun show, I know I'm a dog!

I feel you brother. I am always in pain from my wounds and the only thing that makes me forget it is to go shooting. I had to take a furlough from work until am better. I find myself at the local gun shop almost every day. I was just there today consigning some 550 cord slings and bracelets that I make. I was whining to the owner that I couldn't find a job and that I had to sell my M1A EMR. He said he might be able to get me a seasonal job working behind the gun counter and that brightened my day a little.

I just bought a .22 from them a week ago and I have had a blast with it so far.

I like that set up you got. Post some pics when you can!!!

Please stop wishing me well. All it ever seems to do is make things worse.A friends dad died from complications, another person I knew got killed just down the road here. With in 24hrs my #1 dog got killed by a car on the same road. Out in the freezing rain performing CPR on my lifeless dog wasn't a good night for me.
In lieu of the situation I found a pristine 1965 Remington 521T at the gun shop. It was a beauty. I bought it because I was feeling pretty darn crappy. I took it to the range and shot it. It was great. Well until I noticed the rest I was using had a carpet tack sticking up. I about died! My wood! Now I have to fix that. Will this year ever end?!?!

First day to ever attempt at shooting 200yards with a 22mag rimfire. This was the best group on target I had. I had another one slightly better, but my holdover didn't quite put me on paper.

Nice group!! I'm also looking for a .22 WMR for my next rat shoot. I picked up one of those KelTec PMR 30 .22WMR pistols and it needs a big brother to shoot with. I tried my 10-22 in .22LR last time I was out and it would hit but didn't have enough poop to put those guys down at the range that I was shooting at. I've narrowed my selection down to the Savage offerings, too. I'll probably do a stainless.
