Here is an enhanced listing of all Los Angeles area (and greater So Cal) matches that I am aware of, I am sure there are others, please PM me and I can add your match to this post. It would be great if all shooters attended if not shot at least one match in their day, it is a great and very addictive sport – ask me how I know! GI2

200 Yard Reduced
4th Saturday of each month (not at ASR): Lopez Canyon
Our local (private) club has a 200 yard line with pits and 6 working frames that hosts a monthly high power match. Matches are open to guests of members on the 4th Saturday of the month. Sign up is in advance or the day of the match at 0730 with the first shot down range at 0830.
The 200 yard venue allows perfect training for offhand and rapid sitting stages at full the 200 yard distance and reduced 300 yard rapid prone & 600 yard slow prone targets in a canyon with varying wind and light conditions that is great practice for full course matches. Most matches are the 50 round National Match course with an occasional 60 round Service Rifle Match or Vintage Garand Match firing the JCG ‘B’ course.
We can easily accommodate up to 24 shooters in 4 relays alternating competitors between firing, scoring and pit duty. A new shooter orientation is held after the match (as required) and new shooters are encouraged to come out and observe the match or shoot the course of fire. Typical attendance is between 12 to 18 shooters from Unclassified to High Master, all are welcome. We shoot both service and match rifle on the line and any working rifle with iron sights and a sling, capable of holding at least 5 rounds is OK to shoot; although most competitors shoot either the AR, M1A/M14, M1 Garand or Match Rifle/Space Gun.
This is a great venue for getting valuable 200 yard experience including reading conditions, spotting and scoring, pit duty and general match readiness for CMP or NRA competition. The club has working flush toilets, shaded parking and is easily accessible via freeway in the San Fernando valley. This is my home club, PM me if you are interested in attending to observe or shoot with us.

At least 3-4 clubs shoot Full Course matches each month, not exactly Los Angeles Area though, but worth the drive for 600 yard shooting IMO:
1st Sunday of each month Ojai Valley Gun Club
-they shoot a 50 round National Match course with sighters at 200, 300 and 600 yards
-every other month they shoot a 3 x 600 round Prone match with unlimited sighters
-I love this range, unfortunately due to a berm along the high power range wind is about 1/2 value of what the flags show, but still a great place with a scenic mountain drive
-for info see http://www.dock.net/ovgc/ and click on National Match
2nd Weekend of each month (construction and conditions permitting): Burbank Rifle and Revolver Club
-they alternate between NRA or CMP 50 round National Match course with sighters at 200, 300 and 600 yards on BOTH
-they also shoot the either
-for info see http://www.dock.net/ovgc/ and click on National Match
3rd Weekend of each month (subject to range closures): Santa Margarita Gun Club (Camp Pendleton)
-they shoot a rotating match schedule, check their website for event info
-this is a great range on the Marine Corps base at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA – one of my favorite ranges!
-be sure your guns and ammo are locked separately and you have your current vehicle registration and valid drivers license with you to drive on the base
-for info see http://www.santamargaritagunclub.org/2.html
3rd Weekend of each month: Desert Marksman Rifle and Pistol Club
-they list a High Power Rifle match on the third Saturday of the month, either Service-Rifle or Match-Rifle can compete
-they also offer Tactical Rifle and 1000 yard events – I have not shot here yet, perhaps one day if I find the time!
-for info see http://www.dmrpc.org
The ones I list here are just the ones I have had first hand experience with, either the range or the club, or know someone well who does. For other venues like central coast or Northern California (Coalinga, Cuyama, etc) check out http://www.carifle.com the California High Power Rifle Competition site, all events/venues are listed – this is the bible of California of High Power/Shooting events.
So get out there and shoot a match this year, continue the heritage and tradition of rifle marksmanship and friendly competition!
