Bummed out

Seeing as they moved the M1A match a week ahead of the CMP games I guess we are shooting the Military Match on Friday. The suck part , after all the help and tricks I've learned on this forum to make my Standard shoot respectfully will have to be reversed. I can't afford a nother rifle. Oh well. I'm just glad I kept all the parts. I hope the trigger job and opening up the end of the forearm passes. Anyone else shooting this instead of the M1A match. Dan

M1A Springfield match

Where did you find the posting for the date of the M1A Springfield match?

You can get the calendar from the CMP site.
The Springfield M1A match is at the start of the rifle Nationals , about a week and a half before the CMP Games. We are going up for the Carbines ,Garand's,03A3's and filling Friday in with the Modern Military Match with our M1A's. My shooting buddy had open heart last year right before the Nationals and couldnt go so looking forward to it.

Since I know nothing about the "M1A" Match what did you do to your Standard with "tricks" or "help" that would not allow you to use it?

Thanks from Wasted ammo

Well I guess if you look at the spec sheets for the 2 rifles except a NM barrel and op rod guide . Then scour all the accuracy enhancing threads from the last 5 years from the gentleman on this site that give great recommendations on making the platform shoot. I just hope after the CMP takes over at Perry they will run the matches together like the last couple of years.

Didn't the M1A match go with the NRA to Camp Atterbury, so it is not at Perry at all this year? Last calendar I saw M1A was on July 8th, that's a week before SAFS Rifle and two weeks before the CMP Games Garand match. Did you see the NRA match moved to July 15th or is CMP offering a competing M1A/M14 match now?

Oh heck. I guess I'm looking at the one you are. The way I read it this is the last year for the NRA at Perry. I may be wrong. If anyone has new info I'd really like to hear it. We have rooms booked. Thanks all

I just found the new calendar. I guess it's not going to affect us . But yes the M1A match went away too. I hope the CMP has an equivalent next year.

CMP and NRA's divorce and scheduling is screwing the entire competitive shooting community. Making shooters and vendors pick one venue over another will result in fail.

I agree it is going to be a very messy divorce and most of the shooters I know are going to sit out of the nationals this year and stay home shoot the local fun shoots. Time will tell.

Shooters will be sitting out, service teams will have to choose one venue ovr another and same with the vendors.

I've been to Atterbury once back in 2005. Nice ranges, but not Camp Perry quality and their 1000 yard range wasn't big enough to support an NRA National. Add to that prime facilities on post are being used by Civil Air Patrol's National SAR school at that time.

CMP needs to revamp their "games" schedule separate from the Trophy matches and NRA needs to do their part to keep the Nationals at Perry. I've been out of competitive HP for almost 10 years now and was thinking about getting back in. Not with this cluster going on...

In an email today from NRA Match Director Dennis Willing to me "I just talked with Springfield Armory here at the SHOT Show and Mike Doy advised the M1A Match will be held at Camp Perry, at least for 2017. He will decide about 2018 later. "
I still cannot find the date, but, I have an email in to the CMP asking for the date and registration information. DennyMac

Thanks Denny Mac. I'm going to hold out for now converting my M1A back into a standard service grade rifle. I agree it's a real bummer the NRA left Perry even if I only shoot the M1A match and CMP games.i guess we will all see what happens. Thanks. Dan
