Setting up a web cotton sling for service rifle?

The purpose of this thread is pretty simple: for those of you who use a web sling for SR, how do you have it set up? Any photos?

I used to use a Turner NM M1907 as a Junior Shooter. However, 10 years, 50 #, and 5" later that sling (which I trimmed) won't suffice anymore. I'm considering the switch to the web sling since I have a few laying around.

I use the old way(M14), and get that sling up in my armpit.

Other than low cost, readily availability, durability, big advantage to the GI cotton web sling is that with that clamp on forward of sling you can adjust to suit easily if not where you want it once in position. I have two Leslie Tam leather slings, one for M14 and other for AR15 and they are of top quality, but been put away in storage and switched to the GI web sling for some years.

Not according to the USMC when I was taught on the M14. The rear was never undone from the rifle, and there was no arm loop.

Competition shooting isn't the same as combat shooting even though the fundamentals are the same.

We were instructed in the use of the sling and used it detached from the rifle and with the loop. I mean no disrespect, but I'm thinking your instructor likely modified the course of instruction for you as he was instructing SeaBees in order for them to be confident in protecting themselves, he was not making Marine riflemen.

Did you watch the video? I went through in '66 and '67. We had USMC teachers at San Onefre, used USMC manuals, and USMC qualification rankings.

The OP was asking for methods to set up the web sling for SR... SR is NRA "Service Rifle" competition. As ArmyPilot stated, competition is different from what you learned in 66-67. Take a moment and see the different disciplines have unique styles and methods. Combat, formal competion, or 3-Gun are all going to be different in respect to slings, kneeling position, or rifle grip. No style is right or wrong-just different.

Sorry, I missed the SR connection. I don't compete, and didn't get it. I guess I'm more into practical shooting.
