| Match Report for 08-27-06 at the Temple Gun Club
Didn't do too poorly, considering this was the first time I'd gone shooting since the TGC Service Rifle Match the last weekend of September '05. The weather was a bit warm and humid when we got started, with the temp around 80* in the shade with humidity around 75%. Of course, we weren't in the shade. As the day heated up, the humidity dropped, so it was kind of a trade off. I had a bit of a hard time warming up and getting back into my Brass, so I only shot a 165x0 in awful hand.
I did a bit better in the first string of the sitting, but dropped four into the nine ring. Second string I shot clean, though with four Xs, so my total for the sitting was 197x6 (we score the best of 22rds, since we score our own targets after shooting the whole stage - my first sighter was in the 8 ring at 5:00 and my second in the 10 ring at 11:00). :)
Once we moved out to the 300, I was sweating a bit more (temp at around 88* in the shade with probably around 60% humidity) and had a hard time with beads of sweat rolling down into my glasses. I put the first sighter into the NRA logo on the target, so I couldn't tell where it had hit. Given that I'd only come up two full clicks from the 200yd line and a bit of a breeze had picked up coming from 9:00, I swagged that I'd hit low and to the right, so I added another click of elevation and came over a half MOA with the windage. I ended up in the 9 ring at 5:00, so I added another half minute of elevation and another half MOA left for windage. Once we hit the deck from standing, I kept having to try and adjust my glasses or look around sweat drops during the rapid, so it was hard to hold a consistant position. However, I didn't do too terribly and ended up with a 183x1.
For the 600 reduced to 300, I had the same problems with sweat (temp around 90* in the shade with humidity around 50%), but of course had the time to actually take off my glasses and clean the sweat and grease out of them so that I could see the target. However, that meant breaking position a few times, which is never good. I was shooting Malaysian, so I didn't expect stellar scores, and was satisfied with the 175x0 that I ended up with. I would have preferred to break 180, but even on a good day thats been hard for me to do with surplus ammo in the slow prone.
So, I ended up shooting a 720, which is just a bit lower than what I was averaging this time of year last year. All in all, I was pretty happy to not have sucked too badly and it is always fun to go shoot regardless of the outcome.

Thanks. Yep, good time had by all. I should have added that the match winner won with a 776 and Expert class, which is what I was bumped up to last year, was won by a Sharpshooter with 738.

Nice score TEA! And good on you for surviving the temps and humidity. I think that is why I have all but given up the competitions - just makes for a long uncomfortable day!

If you had a good time, then it was a good match. Until one tries it, one doesn't realize just how much the conditions play a part in your performance. Sounds like you gave the elements a good fight!
