Daniel, Relative to the AWS sling, some love it, some hate it. It doesn't tend to slip but it is hard to get in and out of this sling. M1 cotton slings are very inexpensive, are infinitely adjustable and easily marked. I also think that they are very simple to use. Avoid the VN era nylon M1 slings - they are very slippery and thus worthless for competition. The newer USMC coarse weave nylon M1 slings are OK and they are a lot like a cotton sling once they break in. I find leather 1907 slings to be the most comfortable slings. As long as you buy a good 1907 sling, they do last for many years. The cheap ones aren't worth owning. Rick

Sure, heated stamp kit would work. If the AWS sling is working, then that's the sling to use. It definately will not slip.

I started with the Turner leather on my M1A and AR15 and they got floppy after a year or so. I replaced one with the AWS and the keepers always were too grippy. One of the guys at the club had the Ron Brown sling. Much better quality leather than the Turner. As the other Turners on my Garand and AR wore out I now have replaced them with Ron Brown slings. Ron Brown slings are available thru Creedmoor Sports for the same price as the Turners. A few guys talk about Les Tam having the best slings, but there is a two year wait since he makes them by hand one at a time. I came across a competitior that had an older Les Tam, the leather and hardware looked almost identical to my Ron Brown sling.
