8/20/2016 - Buffalo Creek Gun Club - Bailey CO
AR-15 with Leupold Mark AR 1.5-4x20 scope

Match 1 (200 OSF)- 177-2x
Match 2 (200 SRF)- 189-3x
Match 3 (300 PRF)- 190-3x
Match 4 (600 PSF)- 185-1x
Match 5 - 741-9x

Beautiful weather in the Rockies today. All in all a good match, but I think maybe my sling is coming loose in the rapid stages as my rounds start leaking out of the 10 ring into the 9 and 8 rings around 4 to 5 o'clock.

Also, got to experience a boil first hand today at 600.... Sighters were fine, then the wind died and my first 2 shots for record were 7's at 11 to 12 o'clock (didn't believe the first shot).

Thanks from arcticdog and XXIV Corps

Good times up with Tflorman today. It was an absolute beautiful day. If any of you guys ever want to shoot in CO this range is awesome. Old WWI range that was abandoned after WWII and some guy found it in the 60s.

Here are a few pics of my brother shooting today.

Got lazy and drug out the AR15. Have had some up/down performance for August at a few matches. Been fighting some heat/health issues. Had a cooler weekend this time around. High today was 71.

9/10/2016 NRA Approved League Match (40 shot 200yd Reduced for the 300/600 stages)
Munger, MI
NRA 40
Rock River AR
Match 1 - 91-2x
Match 2 - 97-4x
Match 3 - 99-4x
Match 4 - 98-5x
Match 5 - 385-15x

9/11/2016 NRA Approved League Match (40 shot 200yd Reduced for the 300/600 stages)
Munger, MI
NRA 40
Rock River AR
Match 1 - 92-1x
Match 2 - 96-1x
Match 3 - 95-0x
Match 4 - 99-4x (Both sighters were 10s, last shot was a 9. One of those dammit moments)
Match 5 - 382-6x

My August matches were all pretty much in the low 90%s. Only a couple more matches left for me this year. (Especially if I don't want to move into the barn).

Two day weekend shooting at the Bucksnort Club, Marshall, MO. Full distance range with 200, 300 and 600 yd f.p. Sunny, hot (mid 90s F) and very humid. Shot the Armscorp M14NM, match conditioned, in all matches.

08/27/16 Missouri State Service Rifle Championship, 80 Rnd NRA XTC Match
Match 1 (200 yd Standing): 174-0
Match 2 (200 yd Rapid Sit): 180-0
Match 3 (300 yd Rapid Prone): 188-5x
Match 4 (600 yd Slow Prone): 173-2x
Aggregate: 715-7x

08/28/16 4 Person Team Match, Presidents Course, 30 Rnd CMP Match per person
Match 1 (200 yd Standing): 85-0
Match 2 (300 yd Rapid Sit): 91-1x
Match 3 (600 yd Slow Prone): 86-0
Aggregate: 262-1x

08/28/16 CMP LEG Match, 50 Rnds
Match 1 (200 yd Standing): 81-0
Match 2 (200 yd Rapid Sit): 85-1x
Match 3 (300 yd Rapid Prone): 95-0
Match 4 (600 yd Slow Prone): 177-2x (90-2x first string)
Aggregate: 438-3x

I shoot the only M14. 90% of AR-15s have scopes. My web sling needed sewing as it loosened during the matches (which I first felt at 600, but tightened too late in that stage). The mid afternoon LEG standing and rapid sitting stages were a challenge even with hydration and wick-away clothing (sweat drenched). No wind at 600 yd though. Still, had a great weekend. Everyone gets hot and tired; its learning how to push through.

Edit: I shoot CMP Vintage (M1 Garand, 03A3 Springfield) in between NRA XTC Matches. Good practice, usually mid 270s of 300 pts possible.

Thanks from mic52, TRW1964 and Patchhound

Standing

I was practicing with my M14 the other day at the range. A CMP GSM instructor watched me and said I was leaning back ever so slightly. Did I know this? No. Turms out my feet weren't parallel but turned slightly outwards. When I moved them parallel, I straightened up (pun intended). It helps to center those shots!

FWIW, I now spend 80% of my shooting practice on standing. Although my scores lately haven't met expectations, I know I can shoot in the 90s at NRA XTC matches.

Another gorgeous day in the Rocky Mountains. I shot my personal best missing a Master score by only 1 point. Of note, I finally broke into the 180's while shooting offhand...which makes me very happy.

This was the final full length 80 shot scheduled for the Denver Area this year so I am glad I finished strong. That said...I am planning to travel to the Phoenix area for the Creedmoor Cup in Mid October so there will be 240 more shots that might help me make my goal of getting my Master classification card this year. Crossing my fingers I shoot well there.

Good work. Really like reading about these levels of shooting competence. Maybe one day I'll even somewhat approach it, but with the the quality of ranges/distances they afford here in N. Central Texas coupled to near zero public land practice is somewhat restricted. Mine 95% stops at 100 yds., FMJ rarely accommodated, and actually prefer irons though will eventually mount a scope on one of them within my mean$. I haven't fired even a round since early last spring.. it's Hot as the blazes here now and won't get nice like 30 some odd % humidity (now 80's) and STILL mid to high 90's like a steam bath. A few wks ago humid and over 100 and we're not even CLOSE to the GOM just big mudholes called "lakes". Probably sounds like excuses, but me Irish Blood isn't bred for this just like my German Shepherds who can't stand it either... a few more weeks and it will be perfect.

Stripes.. though in Texas now used to live in Brooklyn and L.I. even though up there frequently to see family. Where is the range in Roslyn.. is it along West Shore between Roslyn and Port Washington by the old Bar Beach? And Peconic.. is this maybe also same as Calverton, or maybe the one that used to be and maybe still is just east of LIE 70? Don't know about either of these and reading this got me wondering. I check the L.I. sub foum once in awhile, but it's pretty much dead anymore after the last intolerable NYS edict.

Something finally clicked for me this season. Mentally making fewer mistakes. Actually shot two HM scores back to back. Looking forward to Perry this year. Its been a bumpy road the last couple of seasons dealing with Hurricane Sandy and then a major house fire.

600yd MRP Match
Oscoda, MI
M1A Supermatch. 168 SMK/41.0gr H4895/LC15 Case
Beautiful day in the low 70s. Wind was a mostly neutral 5-9mph. There is a spot down range where another 300 yrd goes across (at the second flags) and the wind has the potential of being unpredictable there.

Found out late last week that my blood sugar was off the map(333 at the dr office and a fasting test that showed an A1C of 11.8) and had been for some time. Not reacting well to the meds. This is going to be a journey for me. Apparently, I should have had a physical between now and 1998.

Match 1 175-2 (Everything was fuzzy and I was trembling when I came off the line.)
Match 2 187-4 (A little better, ate another granola bar)
Match 3 193-3 (Last string was a 99-3, another dammit moment as shot #8 dropped below the ten ring by an inch. Finished up with an x. At least everything on this 20 match was 9 ring or better)

Take a look at the wind flags in the pic below. The small targets in front are verifier's (like the thermometer target) You need to hit in the range before going 600. Apparently, Connie Kalitta(you car guys should know him) doesn't like stuff landing on his personal airstrip.

There was about 15 of us. 9 F-Class with 6 of us Sling Shooters. I won the sling shooters only because I was able to finish. There were breakdowns and DNFs.

Two day weekend shooting at the Mill Creek Rifle Club, De Soto, KS. Full distance range with 200, 300 and 500 yd f.p. Sunny, pleasant (mid 80s F) and humid. Shot the Armscorp M14NM, match conditioned, in all matches.

09/17/16 Kansas State Service Rifle Championship, 80 Rnd NRA XTC Match
Match 1 (200 yd Standing): 166-0 (92-0 1st string, 74-0 2nd string with 1 Miss)
Match 2 (200 yd Rapid Sit): 170-0 (90-1 1st string, 80-0 2nd string with 1 Miss)
Match 3 (300 yd Rapid Prone): 188-3x (94 on both strings)
Match 4 (500 yd Slow Prone): 179-2x (85-1x, 94-2x)
Aggregate: 703-7x

09/18/16 CMP LEG Match, 50 Rnds
Match 1 (200 yd Standing): 88-0
Match 2 (200 yd Rapid Sit): 88-0
Match 3 (300 yd Rapid Prone): 91-1x
Match 4 (500 yd Slow Prone): 169-2x (80-0 1st string with 1 Miss, 89-2x 2nd string)
Aggregate: 436-3x

I shot the only M14. 90+% of AR-15s have scopes. Saturday, those misses came from pushing shots even though I had time. The LEG standing and rapid sitting scores reflect about my average for the season. I need to practice rapid sitting and stop the "Rattle Battle" mode. First time I've shot 500 yds. Saturday's match, I experienced the mirage and wind. Sunday, I overthought mirage and also pushed a shot. Still, had a great weekend. Mill Creek did a great job of hosting us both days.

Were you the only one with an M1A? If so, that speaks to your rifle's reliability.

FWIW, I saw several shooters use CLP or other lubricant on the AR 15 bolt carrier group right before rapids. First time I've seen field lubrication on a service rifle during a match.

Three M1A's including mine. One guy had to leave early. The other rifles were ARs varients and one 1903.

NYS Highpower is in its death throws for sure. No new service rifles so no new shooters for the NTT at Perry for us.
Long Island's highpower is limited to Peconic River Sportsman's club and Roslyn. Roslyn's 200 walk and paste matches are held at the outdoor range in Calverton. Same exit as the better known Calverton outdoor range but its North of the LIE. You can see it from the satellite view over exit 71 on the LIE.

Camp Smith also cut the range from 600 yards down to 300.

The Season in the Northeast is winding down to an end but I managed to grab two 6-point legs at the CMP New England Games and at Millville NJ in September.
I am at 22 points now and just lack a Hard Leg to go distinguished. Not a bad way to end the season.

Congrats on the legs NYCSTRIPES. I plan to attend the Western Games in Phoenix in a couple weeks, so while I doubt I will get any points... I am going to give it my all. It's a shame about the NY High power situation but it's probably gone for good considering the voting base there. Thankfully, the states on the east coast are much smaller than the those in the west so you can still hit some matches with only a few hours driving.

Thanks from NYCSTRIPES
