| 200-600 xtc ?
I should have posted this sooner, but I have been busy. I am going to a match this morning. All the online schedule says is 200-600 XTC. I can't find this covered in NRA rules or CMP rules. What is this? I have searched online and it seems to be a service rifle match, but if it is why don't they call it that? I'm not trying to be a smartalec I am just this ignorant and it is somewhat embaresing.

That is a highpower rifle match. Either service or match rifle. They probably post it like that so competitors know that it is a full distance match. XTC means across the course. Good luck!

probably shoot 80 rounds for record, they might have 8 sighters a couple before each string. You will start off in the offhand position then the sitting then the prone.

Very good description. Thanks! There is no way I could shoot sitting in this cold weather. Arthritis is killing me Quote:

I can relate! Sitting hurts my back, hips, knees, but I get through it.
You can shoot from the kneeling position also. http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=...ail&FORM=VIRE1 |

Highpower matches will be nra rules. CMP rules only come into play for Excellence in Competition (EiC or "Leg" matches).

Well I drove out there to watch, learn and maybe help, but noone showed up. KY shooter I sure am glad you didn't drive down here for nothing. I am really begining to wonder about this bunch. I called the clubhouse before I left and they told me it was still on the schedule. There is a club in north Miss., but it is over an hoiur from my houise.
Yes it is cold and it is windy, but to not show up and not post it on the website is kinda rude in my book. I know a lot of people don't do internet still, but there has to be a better answer than this.

Ugh! I've never heard of that happening!
If you do go again, just shoot the match. You're going to learn a heck of a lot more just by fumbling your way across the course than by spectating.

If it helps, I think you may be allowed to shoot a stage from the next most difficult position i.e. you could shoot the sitting string offhand. Kneeling is also an option.
I'm not saying either of these will add points to your score but it may be better than not shooting at all

MM The same thing to me last week at Pascagoula MS. It's a hundred mile drive (one way) from the house, and no one showed up. I'm not on the mailing list and have not been able to be authenticated on the PSC forum. There seems to be a problem with HP program at PSC. They're looking for a Match Director, the old Match Director (a VA Doc out of Mobile, AL.) emailed me after the fact about what happened.
I did manage to make some Lemonade from the Lemons. A trauma doctor from down-town New Orleans showed up for the match. He wasn't a member but I was, so it was up to me if we wanted to shoot. There wasn't many other people there to shoot (they have to shut down the 200yd line because there's no berm between the it and 600yd range) I guess people knew this and didn't come out because it was a scheduled match day.
To be considerate of some others who did eventually show up to shoot on the 200yd range, we decided to just work on our 600yd game only so we didn't keep them from shooting. I had a good day and the Doc turned out to be a great shooter with some really nice weapons. I still would have rather shoot a match.
I will have to say for as much as I complain about how snooty the Palo Alto HP shooters are, the Match Director there runs a good program and is great guy. Some times that's all it takes is one dedicated guy to hold these things together... unfortunately it makes it easy for things to fall apart too.

I saw the XTC match was cancelled on the msgunowners.com forum. It was a miserable weekend, I think it was supposed to be snowing and sleeting there that day.
I have received a PM from the new Pascagoula match director indicating the berms are fixed and they will be getting back on schedule and he has applied for an EIC match in September! PM me if you want his contact info so you can stay updated.

In my opinion for whatever that is worth, the High Power matches are an excellent method of developing shooting skills. I run matches at our local HP club and it is hard to get more shooters to come out and give it a try even though we do all we can to help them even to the extent of loaning a rifle, ammo, mat, scopes, gloves, slings, etc. for not everyone has the gear to start with, but it is a slow process to get them to come.
Fear of not doing well, embrassment, etc. would guess reasons for not turning out, but I always tell them experienced shooters are very embarassed at times. We have had good success with those in the age brackets of say, 18 to 30, but older guys seem to have more "macho" and since they have shot deer, game, etc. don't want to damage their image of "good shooters." I know what you mean by a cancelled match for a long time ago went to our State Championship(WV) and when I got there, one other shooter and the match director. Fellow said that for some reason the match had been cancelled, but if we wanted to shoot since we drove there he would go ahead with it.
My score was terrible then, but after we finished, he gave the good shooter a nice trophy, match fees returned, and I instantly became the second best shooter in WV that year, plus got my match fees back.
