2012 Montana M1A State Championship and Service Rifle Tournament

I am glad to announce some significant changes to the June 2012 Missoula, MT high power schedule.

We are going to continue with our second annual Montana M1A State Championship, and this will be in conjunction with our Montana State Service Rifle (SSR) Championship, President's 100 Team Match and EIC Leg matches.

The SSR championship has traditionally been in Butte, but we were able to negotiate for it and combine the SSR (all service rifles) championship with the M1A championship.

Last year, we were fortunate to have a couple generous sponsors for the M1A championship, and we hope to continue with them. We will announce more about this in the coming weeks. We already have few prizes to give away and we will be raffling of a USGI TRW bolt. The proceeds from the raffle will be used to support high power, developing new high power shooters and junior shooters in Montana.

All Service Rifles are welcome to compete, however the winner of the M1A Championship will be using a M1A/M14 - naturally. We are also have a class for service rifles with optics and we are allowing any 1903/1903A3/1903A4 to participate.

The 2012 Montana Service Rifle Tournament will involve a lot of events and will provide a competitor, of any level, some opportunities to get a lot of ammo down range.

Schedule of events:
  • Friday, June 22, 1:00PM - M1A Montana State Championship (All Service Rifles welcome). 50 shot match format
  • Saturday, June 23 - SSR Championship (All Service rifles eligible). 80 shot XTC match AND 15 shot 800yd match
  • Sunday, June 24 - Team match using the President's 100 match format. Following the team match there will be a EIC Leg match

To be eligible for eligible to win the SSR tournament, you need to participate in all matches on Saturday and Sunday.

Missoula's Deep Creek Range is a great place to come and compete. The range is located in a scenic area in the mountains, but is only a few minutes from Missoula. We are welcoming shooters of all ability and the team match will be used to help newer shooters.

I will post more info in the future regarding any additional specifics. I hope we see more of our Montana M14TFL members come out and shoot.

What is the format on the M1A Championship, same as the one at the Naitonals?

Nez,

The format will be the same - mostly. I suggested to SAI, that they keep the M1A match consistent from year to year and run it like this:
  1. Prone Slow Fire
  2. Prone Rapid Fire
  3. Sitting Rapid Fire
  4. Offhand
The above format is how the Montana M1A Championship match will be run. There will be sighters ONLY during the prone slow fire match, and you can take your sighters from any position.

That is by far the best and most efficient way to run this match and is the way we run it at our club in MI. I hope the NRA and SAI take your advice and run it that way at Perry jameydan. Good luck with your match on the 22nd. Our's, by the way, is on June 23rd. Hope we don't cost each other any shooters!!
