| 3-gun match saturday, vid for those interested
I did okay with the shotgun and pistol, but suuuuuuucked with the SCAR 16. I'd only sighted it in at 20 yds with a mathematical zero (supposed to get me on steel at 200 but was waaaay off).
Moral of the story... sight in your rifle properly before shooting in competition.
Still lots of fun, though. |

Looks like you had a great time.
Now you know why I mentioned that a tenth of an inch error at 20 yards could create 75 yards error at 200 yards. I don't like to use close range BZO for any reason other than to verify, in a general way, that your weapon is still zeroed. There just isn't any substitute for doing your Initial zero at the actual desired zero range.
Regardless, I'm jealous, you are getting out there and enjoying the sport and gaining experience. I need to get off my backside and go out there some day. I keep going to the range in Bountiful but that's just a 200 yards fixed range. They are doing pin shoots with pistols now but again, I need to get motivated to actually participate.

Actually it was positively balmy compared to last year's New Year's Day 3-gun... it was -3 degrees that morning.
Yep, RAMMAC, you were dead right. I thought I'd be okay but it didn't work out. I ended up pulling off the aimpoint and shooting irons but I sucked with them as well.
maybe I need glasses. |

With as much as you are getting out there and working at it you will have everything worked out pretty quickly.
In the mean time you get out and have fun with a bunch of other people that enjoy the same kind of sport.

Looks like a blast. Most stuff shuts down around here in the winter. There are some indoor pistol matches, but nothing outdoors or 3 gun, at least that I know about.

FYI here's one stage (low-res, sorry) of me sucking with the SCAR.
part 1
part 2
hadn't zeroed properly, and can't see properly apparently. LOL
I eventually walked in the hits with help from my spotters but this was embarrassing. A good time on this stage was under 30 seconds... I ended up with 91 seconds. Ugh. :-D
Start on paper silhouettes, 3 rds each, then hit steel ~4 inch poppers at about 50 yds, 3 hits each, and one ~8 inch hostage taker swinger at about 100 yds.
On the final stage with steel at 200+ yds I took 11 misses out of 15. LOL

Well hell, there's your problem...that rifle has no recoil !!
Wow, does that thing even kick at all?
Looks like it's hitting pretty high, ammo must be moving pretty quick and holding a flat trajectory.

It was weird... for the hits on the 50 yd poppers I was holding off the target high and right.
So it would seem I was hitting quite low. But if I shot with both eyes open it seemed like the zero moved on me.
I basically need to start from scratch and shoot at varying distances. And see an optometrist. :D
It does kick, but it's very smooth and feels like it comes straight back. The brake works. The trigger is not the best (feels like an AR "battle" trigger... single stage, bit of creep but not bad, and about 7ish lbs I'd guess) but Geissele's upgrade is $400 so I'll be leaving it alone for now. LOL

I wonder if you can just polish the trigger parts and get a little better feel. Quote:

I imagine so. I don't know enough about them to mess with it but I may try a bit of polishing at some point. It's not bad as is. I should probably buy a trigger pull gauge.
