V-Notch Aperture - Is it Service Rifle legal?

In a thread on another site that I didn't wish to disrupt with an off-point question, Gus Fisher mentioned some '50's-'60's NM Garands that reached the Armed Forces team(s) with a V-Notch or "Buckhorn" style modified rear sight aperture. Maybe I missed it, but I couldn't find a clear answer in the CMP rules. I know it'd be "legal" for NRA Match Rifle, but I'm thinking more directly about Service Rifle Palma and 1K with the Garand or M14 clone. Anybody knows, plz advise. I have never personally observed one in a Service Rifle match, but then I don't troll the line eyeballing other people's eqpt. Thanks.

It would be illegal, as it is an external modification from the 'as-issued' condition.

Furthermore, you would not want it, as you lose all the optical benefits of an aperture sight, so your depth of field is miserable, and the blur your eye sees on both the target and the front post are really, really bad.
