| appleseed shoot report 217 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i haven't shot with a sling before, so my first day's scores were pretty low.
i did some thinking over night, got the routine down and had a good day today.
today shoot boss sgt rock said, "hey, why are your groups spreading out?!?!?", and i was like, wtf, then he shows me my score.
thanks to all on the forum that offered advice, thanks to sgt and bob for their help and everyone, go shoot an appleseed!
ps

Yep, the slings are a HUGE help once you figure out how to use them. At first I hated the loop sling and used the hasty. But after continued practice I now prefer the loop over the hasty. It has no down side...O.L.

When and where in Utah is appleseed coming to Utah?
I had so much fun at the first one I went to I would like to try another.
You'll enjoy it. I did!
Never mind, just answered my own question. Maybe I'll see if I can make it. Right up the street from me.

May try the Garand this time. Will be bringing the M-1A for sure.

It's more of a challenge with a .30 cal. centerfire. The recoil in the rapid fire stages will make you appreciated the sling and being able to build a good sling supported firing position.

Congrats, Pine Snake!!!
It does take a bit to figure out the sling and to be able to make changes on tension and adjustment on the fly... but once you have it, you have it! Quote:

I'm very much at home on the AR, and it just fits me better than the 10/22, even giving a little time up with recoil management. Slinging up really makes a difference. I shot just about as good as I did kneeling as I did prone (I can't do sitting... bad back.)
The next Appleseed I plan on using the Socom16... |

So pine snake . . you were at Throop last week end? I was supposed to be there but my job had me on call that week end because of the state of emergency in Otsego County.
That Sgt Rock is quite a guy huh? I have shot at least three Appleseeds where he was the shoot boss. The Appleseed Project is fortunate to have Sgt Rock.
Drop me a PM and let me know where you are at, I am in Vernon Center.

| First Appleseed Shoot!!!
I went to my first Appleseed shoot this past weekend. Observations??.. Outstanding !!! Here is a cut and paste of what I posted on the Appleseed webpage discussion group concerning our state.
"To all The Appleseed/RWVA (Revolutionary War Veterans Association) Cadre/Range Staff who conducted the Appleseed Training session/qualification on 15/16 October at Sun Valley Shooting Park/CWRC , all I can say is:
BRAVO ZULU!!!!...
You professional range operations/procedures/standards far exceeds that of today’s current military forces, especially the Army.. . I’m looking forward to hopefully making the next shoot in Coeur d'Alene, ID if it works out with my schedule???.. Otherwise I’ll see you in Dec."
One Saturday We shot one record AQT in the afternoon, scored a:
216-13V.
One Sunday I shot three record AQTs and scored the following in order:
221-15V,
233-12V,
231-20V.
I saved rounds in all four AQTs in setting Rapid Fire. The mechanics of my bolt action magazine just made changing magazines to slow in the setting position. But for me the most satisfying thing of the whole weekend was after the history lesson during Sunday’s lunch. (The story was of the elderly Colonial Gentleman who single handedly engaged a superior British force). Anyway I received the designation by the Shoot Boss as being a “Dangerous Old Man”…
One a side note, it was tremendous to see so many youngsters and single late teens/early 20’s woman shooting. EXCELLENT!!!.. Sadly, I was the only Veteran present and the oldest person to participate. And I was pooped at the end of each day!!.. I forgot just how intensive this type of shooting is... Felt all of 60 let me tell you...
