I just purchased an M1a national match with a stainless barrel. Is there anything i need to do before shooting? I have cleaned the bore and lightly oiled it (run an oiled patch followed by a dry one). Do I need to disassemble and grease anything? The bolt groves (for lack of a better term) seem to be dry, should they be oiled or greased? any other miscellaneous info would be great.
Thanks!
A gun I picked up came with a broken hook on the trigger guard. Inspect it!
Another common thing to check is whether or not the auxiliary sear drags on the stock.
Might as well see how well the op rod lines up to the gas piston while you are at it. And then re-check after shooting to see if it moved off alignment.
Look for tiny nicks on your beautiful new stock made by ejecting shells. Sometimes, the shells flip out striking the op rod and stock. You can decide if it is worth putting a little tape on the stock. I keep forgetting.
