help me on a trw m14

hi guys
andy in italy here
i bought today a 1963 trw m14 # 1.384.442 , the barrel is marked trw 7790190 11-63 8M
bolt as the op rod is trw marked
the trigger housing is trw, hammer is marked 66118 5546008, safety k8, guard is unmarked
the rear sight base is harrington and richarsdon
the flash hider is unmarked, or i cannot find any mark. where does it should be?
anyone can post a pic?
same for the gas piston and gas cylinder, that is completly bright. i wish to see pics of the marks.
the stock have DAS and the proof mark.

can anyone help me to know wich parts i have to change to have a complete trw m14?
what other parts should be marked trw?

thanks
ciao
andy

Congratulations Andy! To start TRW only made 11 parts, the rest were subcontracted.
1. Rear sight base
2. Bolt
3. Flash Suppressor
4. Barrel
5. Receiver
6. Hammer
7. Op rod
8. Piston
9. Gas cylinder
10. Connector
11. Trigger housing

Your rear sight might be the only thing you need to worry about changing out, but some more knowledgeable guys might chime in and identify some others.

I over looked your hammer, 66118 was the code for Winchester.

thanks so much

well for the moment i dont know how to identify the gas cylinder, piston and flash hider. mine seem to be unmarked.
the gas cylinder is bright, and as i know, is the same as the m1 garand cylinder, bright cause old and used.
is it true?

what is the right sling for this rifle?

All USGI flash suppressors and all USGI gas pistons were unmarked. Some gas cylinders were marked, e.g., T inside a circle was made by The Torrington Company. In 1963, a TRW M14 would have been carried with the same green cotton web sling used on the M1 Garand. rifle. Also, the safety (marked K8) was made by Killeen Machine & Tool for a 1969 U. S. government contract. Remove the butt plate from the end of the stock. Are there any letters stamped in the end of the stock such as O, H, S A, W-W, or S under a half-diamond?

but as Ripper wrote, and i have read on 2 books i have here about the m1, TRW made own 11 parts , and the other was made by subcontractors..
it is possible that some parts made by trw were marked and some others no?

Congratulations, Andy. As far as your Winchester hammer, HRA rear sight base, and Killeen safety (which may be correct on your TRW rifle - there are opinions both ways), you can probably find the parts, but after you swap them in/out you may decide the rifle worked better the way it came to you. TRW wood stocks tend to have recognizable slab sides and a dark finish unless re-finished.

TRW did not mark all of the eleven M14 parts it made. TRW only marked these six parts: receiver, trigger housing, hammer, bolt, operating rod, and barrel. S. E. Overton & Co. made wood M14 stocks for TRW.

TRW did make replacement M14 safeties after its last M14 rifle contract was fulfilled. The TRW M14 safeties are marked TRW. The firing mechanism in your rifle was rebuilt at some point after 1968. Personally, I would leave it as is.

The M14 parts were not marked with manufacturer identification like M1 Garand or BM-59 parts. You have a genuine USGI M14. That is awesome.

You're missing a hook on the hammer, it needs to be replaced.

The windage knob is likely original. Wright Manufacturing made windage knobs for TRW (marked WRIGHT) and for Harrington & Richardson Arms (marked HRA-W).

What is the marking on the gas cylinder that is being sold on GB? If it is a "T" inside a circle, it was made by The Torrington Company, a subcontractor to Harrington & Richardson Arms.

Different, i think the hammer was cutted to prevent the full auto restoration. I want to replace it as soon i will find a trw hammer.
About the gas cylinder on GB, seller wrote it have the trw logo but i still have not saw any pic.

@ Tankdriver... Well... Here u have only to have fireArm licence then go in a gunshop and buy it. The hard thing is to find a good old vietnm era m14. Scarce here... And expensive ... I payd it 3000 euro... At the actual change...arround 4500$... And i took almost 2 years to find it
