Typical NM indicators:
1) A 'hood' on the rear sight, instead of a plain flat aperture.
2) Front sight blade sides narrows towards the front and the top slopes sightly downward towards the front - the sight itself is usually marked NM.
3) There is 'bedding' material between the receiver and the stock, and between the bottom of the trigger group and the stock.
4) The 2nd stage of the trigger pull should be 'crisp' with very little or no creep - but it should not be a 'light weight' pull.

Look for a capital "NM" on; the front end of your rear sight, the right side of your front sight, the top end of the barrel between the gas block and the muzzle brake. Not all national match M1A's have a hooded rear sight, mine doesn't, and I had to have someone bed my stock for me, they didn't do it at the factory.

If you dont see any of those you could probably ask springfield.

I have one from that era, it has the NM rear sight, though it is the SA NM rear sight with a regular windage knob that was altered to 1/2 MOA clicks. It has a detent ball in the in the receiver.

Also has the unitized gas system, glass bedded, heavy Douglas match barrel.

These were the top of the line match rifles available to civilians, around 1993 the rear lugged receivers became available and those were called Super Match.
