My uncle’s TRW m14 rifle looks all original. But i noticed the bolt mark as 7790186 HRT A15 AXT.
It there a time the TRW uses a subcontractor’s part, specially for the bolt? Everything seems to be original. Receiver mark 7700189 R E. Operating rod assembly mark 7267064 TRW. Barrel mark 7790190 7 63 B. Etc.... How can i get info re the bolt used bt TRW? thanks
TRW only made eleven of the major parts of the M14 rifle. The most difficult parts to make are what TRW produced, and the rest were made by sub-contractors. A TRW M14 would have a TRW bolt, as new from the factory. Your H&R bolt is a replacement.DI5
I agree with Sarge,a TRW Rifle will have a TRW Bolt, anything else IS a Replacement!
TRW made only 11 of the Major Components of the Rifle, they are: the Receiver, Bolt,OP Rod,Gas Cylinder, Gas Piston,Barrel,Rear Sight Base, Hammer, Flash Suppressor,Connector and Trigger Housing, this amounted to about 65% of the Rifle all other Parts were supplied by Subcontractors,Winchester made more of their Rifle Components IN HOUSE 80% than the other Civilian Manufacturers, H&R the least!
This is true. Keep in mind that TRW was manufacturing advanced Aerospace products and had the machinery to do so,, and they were the last company to start making the M14 so they didn't go thru the same "growing pains" the other manufacturers did.
HRT was Textile Machine Works (Reading, PA), subcontractor to Harrington & Richardson Arms for M14 bolts. The bolt was replaced in the rifle at some point.
Knowledge, on the other hand, can be shared over many blinks.
