The sykes had a half diamond on the top of the S which might make it look like the top of the S is closed like an eight.

Kinda like this, but can't figure how to get it on top...lol....As for the H, you got me. If it has a cartouche on the left side, post a pic, I might could tell you who's it is.

I've seen a stock with what appears to be a tiny (.25") circular DOD cartouche on the side of the butt, just forward of where your cheek would be. Is this a W-W?

I have one of those stocks, it's a Winchester M14 stock.

I picked up a few stocks on thursday and after cleaning them I noticed a few markings never mentioned. Look at the recess for the trigger housing the one on the left has more material removed as if it was cut wrong The one on the right is a Winchester theres an S & V under the trigger guard......The Stock on the right has Winchester markings the Butt plate too. The Winchester has a wider slot for the rear sling swivel as well. The other stock has a circle with a faint symbol under the butt plate on the top slot cut for the hinge......The Winchester has a double XX in the same spot.....
