I have Federal Ord. #21873.Marked M14SA. Belonged to my brother-in-law who died in 1987. Not sure how long he had it. No name on any parts, just serial numbers, none of which match. Inside the charging handle(for lack of proper name) the date 2/11/51 is scratched.

Fed Ord

Just picked up this one (Different, I sent you a seperate email).

When I pulled it down I didn't see any of the markings or numbers that are on my other two, later model SAI M1A's.

The Buttplate is a steel flapper, and alum plate/trap-door, but no numbers or markings I can find.

I also found that the stock is bent/warpped to the right and the action and trigger group won't fit my other stocks. Compared to a new SAI plastic stock.

FS appears to be rough in finish, smaller hole dia and no markings.

Ideas on what I have here?

Are those markings accurate? According to the research, a serial number that high should be marked M14SA.

Yep, I was going to take a shot at that one as well, but it went a little too high in my opinion. According to the research, I'm pretty sure that one would have been outfitted with all usgi parts, but you never know. I would have taken the chance at 8 or 900 but for $1300, I agree with you, not buying it sight unseen.

I have the following:
U.S. RIFLE
7.62 MM M14SA
FED. ORD. INC.
SO. EL MONTE, CA
21665

I bought it about 20 years ago at a gun show in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Do you have any idea when it was manufactured?

I'm not able to edit the original post.

Federal Ordnance M14SA serial number was manufactured between February 1991 and May 1991.

Recent purchase, Fed. Ord. s/n 6476 M14A all USGI parts, seller had it since 1997, purchased as complete rifle. On the receiver on left side is stamped
02 1 90....I'm guessing this is the date it was made.
