Mine is marked:

7790186
TRW ZB

I assume it is real, with no recall.

After purchasing and reading Scott Duff's book I have done a survey of my two Springfield rifles for GI parts. My NM gun, vintage 1994 and then built into a NM gun by Springfield in 1998 is pretty much all GI (Actually all Winchester besides the barrel but the original barrel was also Winchester).

However my 1995 vintage SOCOM is mostly commercial parts. What has me concerned is that the Bolt is an "A" prefix indicating it is a cast bolt (but not on the recall list). With around 500 rounds through the rifle, it hasn't given me any trouble, but is this something I need to be concerned about? Obviously I would prefer a cast or barstock bolt, but will Springfield swap it out for me or do I just have to wait until it breaks?

Winchester was the manufacturer. EE was the material lot code.

Howdy-
Here's one I'd like help with, if anyone knows.
bolt marked 7790185 ( yes, looked long and hard with direct lighting and magnifying glass- the "5" looks different than the 6's in the second line, top is clearly flat, upwright has no curve to it, front is open )
66118
X
bolt is gray phos. finish, has the dimple.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Best,
cowboy33713

Maybe a stupid qustion, is there any advantage over one USGI bolt manufacturer to another? For example TRW vs. Springfield.

TRW bolts tend to be a little longer. That will shorten the headspace a few thousandths (~ 0.004 " or less). If you're installing a chromium plated USGI barrel on a commercial receiver, it may be what is needed to get the headspace desired.

Is there any preferred TRW bolt? I have 3 TRW bolts and 1 H&R.
One of TRW bolts is marked...
7790186
TRW ZD
the other two are...
7790186
TRW ZG
the H&R bolt is marked...
7790185 HRT
AO3

would any of these be preferred over the other? thanks for any help.

Casey
