Best regards

BwBoxer | Call the Customer Service Department at Springfield Armory, Inc. They can give you the date it was shipped from the factory and in what configuration it was built.

Sent a mail to SA, asking them bout 0155xx
First answer was
"Thank you for your email. For some reason, I am not locating that particular serial number as one of our manufacture. Can you double check the serial number?"
I replied confirmed that's what it says on the receiver and mentioned how this thread information would indicate it would be a rifle from 1980 or somewhere near that year.
And the reply was
"Yes, that could be why I can’t find it in our books."

Psychologist, I think you are missing a number here. Maybe Ser# 08567X??? That would put it somewhere in the born date of 11/04/94. dozier

S/N 0914xx 95 super match as per Springfield Armory in an e-mail as I recall. Bought used. But had HS checked at 1.632 05/16/05 when I had it sent in for some work on the receiver bridge. Little on the rough side. They covered all expenses.

Just picked up my first today. #0055XX. Waiting on a call from SA to confirm date and configuration.
Call back came today (03-19-2012). According to Vicky at SAI, there are no records of my receiver at SAI Genesco, Il. Where else could I find out? (Not a Devine rifle...no stamp). In between?

M14/M1A fans, let's put together a database of the dates M1A rifles were assembled at the factory. This information will go into the book M14 Rifle History and Development
Here's the requirements:
1) List the M1A serial number and the factory headspace tag date or the month and year SA, Inc. Customer Service says it was built.
2) You personally have to have read the serial number and date off the factory headspace tag or you personally corresponded with the Customer Service Department. No second hand reports.
I'll start. These two serial numbers and assembly dates are from the factory headspace tags:
052122 - 11/13/89
134855 - 07/27/01
TIA,

I posted this elsewhere but, alas...wrong place I think.
From the headspace/shipping tag, in the box:
Rifle Serial Number...........203567
Headspace Tag #.............194814
Date...............................Jul 02, 07
Technician.......................ELB
Headspace...................... 1.632
