Let's have a list of recommended M14 magazine suppliers. This way everyone will know who is "safe" to buy magazines from. What is "safe?" "Safe" means the supplier sells M14 magazines that function properly. IOW, USGI level quality. If you use a M14 magazine from one of these suppliers it will work in your M14 type riflle assuming there are no "issues" with the rifle or the ammunition. We can add or subtract from this list as needed. If a particular supplier is not listed, ask why or why not if you don't know. Let's keep this positive. The goal is to keep you, the M14 fan, from wasting time and funds. Note that the prices do vary substantially among the Recommended Suppliers so be sure to comparision shop among them.
after finding this site by accident, i read the list you guys put out about safe mags for the m-14. i ordered some from armorlite, they were only like 25 dollars. most are asking 30 or 40 something for them. they sould be here in seven to ten days. ill write a post after i test them out on how they performed.
What about Fulton Armory? I know there mags are going for $69.95.(A bit on the expensive side) Might be able to use it as a last resort if everyone else is out. That's of course the mags they sell are any good.
Recently, I read one positive review of magazines bought from C J Weapons Acessories. FWIW and YMMV
On Fulton Armory, their magazines are good to go I'm sure but we have no first hand reports. Fulton Armory doesn't sell junk. We need some range reports or additional information, IMO, to make a positive recommendation.
There have been several negative experiences with magazines sold by Ammoman. In good conscience, I can't recommend his M14 magazines. Ammo from Ammoman, sure. M14 magazines from Ammoman, too iffy.
I bought 2 mags from an outfit called 'Keep Shooting', a division of BTP Arms. They arrived in one day so I can't complain about service. The mags are made by PRO-MAG and seem as heavy as any GI mags I have handled. The ProMag wrapping says lifetime warrenty and the seller said if they had a problem, just return them. They are unmarked but seem well made and cost $24.99ea.
I have some CMI mags on order but they are back ordered.
Does anyone have experience with Pro-Mag M14 magazines?
Spartacus2002 across the street did an evaluation on Pro Mag M14 magazines. It was negative. IMO, return the Pro Mag magazines and buy CMI magazines from www.armalite.com or www.44mag.com
As Springfield Armory, Inc. includes only one TEN ROUND magazine with the brand new Loaded M1A I just mortgaged the homestead for, it set me to go looking for more fire-power. A Curio and Relics FFL list member kindly dug up and sold me a quantity of differing capacity magazines and deciding I may need more down the road, set out to look for more at "reasonable" prices. Another member of the Curio and Relics List clued me into what is called a Type 57 Taiwan made magazine using TRW (I hope that is right) equipment to make them that we sold the Nationalist Government. I found an outfit in Apollo, Pa., (http://www.dansammo.com) that had some for sale. His price was $20 each or five for $75.(UPS shipping included) I took a chance and bought the five pack. My order went in on December 22nd ( I ignore holidays...) and arrived here at the house today (Dec.28th). They are nice-looking and fitting magazines. They snap right in place. The magazines have 12 little spot welds along the front holding the parts together. The metal is the same thickness as the one I got from SA, Inc. The locking tab is welded on also. The metal is blued and quite nicely at that. The follower is steel and is stamped. The magazines each came wrapped in VPI paper. I was making supper when UPS arrived, but stopped what I was doing, grabbed the rifle, loaded one of the newly arrived, icy cold magazines with 7 rounds, took it outside and fired as fast as I could down into one of the brush piles east of the house. Magazine fed perfectly and locked open as it should. No, I didn't test all five but I think one out of five at random is pretty good for an initial indication! If the bluing starts to look ratty, then I will DuraCoat them as I have a couple of colors on hand. Pink would surely be attractive and a conversation starter... So, I am more than happy with the magazines received and did not have to pay the $40 each that SA, Inc. thinks they need for theirs. In all fairness, theirs are Parkerized dark gray (!).
Best check into the site if you need M1A/M14 magazines.

I have purchased mags from Cheaper Than Dirt & Midway USA, I have been attempting to ID them. I have used the ones from CTD and I have not had a single problem. I have not used any of the T57's (as advertised) from MidwayUSA as of yet, but they don't seem to be as good in quality as the ones from CTD. I am sure I probably got ripped by both. Live and Learn !!
The "T57" magazines sold by ***** Ammo are not USGI quality level. Some users have reported flawless performance, some have had less than perfect performance with those magazines.
How can it be said that these magazines are not USGI quality level? 1) the price 2) the construction 3) user reports. How does the price determine USGI quality level? Easy greasy. Uh, there's only ONE manufacturer presently of USGI quality level M14 magazines, Check-Mate Industries. I know enough about the current pricing structure and at five for $75.00, there's no way those are CMI magazines.
The intent of the Recommended List of Suppliers is provide a list of vendors who supply magazines that work all the time, not who has the best price. The concern is over reliability. IOW, price is not a factor for being recommended but a suggestion is made to comparison shop among those vendors recommended (read these magazines will work).
I quote from the first post in this thread:
"Let's have a list of recommended M14 magazine suppliers. This way everyone will know who is "safe" to buy magazines from. What is "safe?" "Safe" means the supplier sells M14 magazines that function properly. IOW, USGI level quality. If you use a M14 magazine from one of these suppliers it will work in your M14 type riflle assuming there are no "issues" with the rifle or the ammunition."
Making the assumption that all applicable laws are complied with, anyone can buy any magazine from any vendor any time they want. But experience has shown you may be surprised now and then if you go to use one. FWIW HTH YMMV
I'M new to the forum. I wasn't a marine, but did serve. I
recently bought an M1A from Springfield Armory. Love It.
Only rifle I ever loved. I said that to say this. Brownells sells
m14 mags that are made by borg-warner. I don't know if this
is on you "NO" list but I thought you'all might like to know.
I plan on buying some. They are about 35 dollars. Hopefully
they are decent. I'll keep you'all posted.
I just got in 4 reconditioned mags from ArmaLite. Out of the 4 there were 2 Borg Warner. The other two were from Union Hardware and Killeen Machine & Tool. I didn't specify what I wanted that's just what they sent, and according to them they are original USGI.
I just picked up two (2) unmarked M14 magazines from my local gun shop. The magazines were distributed by ProMag for Springfield Armory, Inc. with a "lifetime guarantee."
They have a matte black Parkerizing that gives the magazine a good "grip." The follower, also Parkerized, has a groove on the left side that allows it to be push up far enough by the spring so that it engages the bolt catch. The rear magazine catch is a square block with two holes punched in the center. It sticks out from the box of the magazine approximately one-eighth (1/8) inch. Other than the front magazine catch, there are no other holes punched into the side of the box.
I acquired these magazines after the two "Brand-X" magazines I bought failed to seat in the magazine well after firing only 40 rounds, each - the rear magazine catch was too short. Luckily, the gun shop allowed me to trade in the two inferior magazines for these magazines.
