Size of man at 300m

Hi, all-

How tall does a six-foot-tall individual appear to be when he's 300 meters away?

I'm trying to come up with some realistic targets that I can use at my (shorter) firing range.

Thanks for your help.

Brent

PS Pardon me if this is covered somewhere (if it is, I can't find it).

Thanks from petro

If you are using iron sights on a 25 meter range, Uncle Sam has already done the work for you.

http://targets.net/html/Targets/M/M16A2.html

While these are often used when a full size range is unavailable, they are not a realistic substitute for trajectory when you have a Battlesight Zero. At 25 meters you always aim at the same spot.

On a full size range, you only aim center mass at the 250m target. You aim at the bottom of close targets and at the neck of 300m targets.

If looking towards you, shoulder width is approximately 18" give or take a couple inches. At 300 yds 18" is 6 MOA (18 divided by 3). So at 100yds 6 MOA is about 6" silhouette if you wanted to use iron sights for practice.

That was the simplest and most common sense answer for this question,
Thanks

6 foot man = 72 inches = 72 inches / 3{inches per moa at 300 yards = 24 moa

24 moa = 24 inches at 100 yards, 12 inches at 50 yards, 48 inches at 200 yards.t
Hits at the center of the target would be about waist high.

you can appleseed targets from fred"s or from appleseed that have the targets scaled from 100 to 400 meters on them, suitable for shooting at 25 yds. don't listen to that fancy math that smoothy 8500 guy is trying to pawn off on you!

Assuming the man is 19" wide by 70" tall when facing you and standing at 300m:

A 100m scaled target would be 6.33" wide by 23.33" tall. A 50m scaled target would be 3.17" wide by 11.67" tall. A 25m scaled target would be 1.58" wide by 5.83" tall.

Who shoots at 25 yards when you're in the desert?

The exact same width of the front sight post of a M16 series rifle. The front sign post itself is calibrate to be shoulder to shoulder of a military aged male at 300m.

Not exactly a M-14-ish kinda answer, but it's a pretty simple reference point.

OK, . . . you got my curiosity up.

Front sight from the AR, . . . is .076, . . . front sight on the M1A is .060. At least that is the numbers from my gun locker.

I'll never understand the science behind the difference, . . . but anyway, . . . that is what the numbers are.

May God bless,
Dwight

The distance of the front sight to the shooters eye also factors in as far as what the width of the sight covers at different distances down range.

standard m14 m1a front sight post is approx torso wide at 300m . 7moa wide. you can use that for ranging closer or farther.
