DuraCoat Stainless Barrel

I am not sure if this can go here or not so if it is in the wrong place I apologize.

I am looking at picking up a sainless steal barrel but I am really dont like the fact that it is stainless. The reason I am looking at it is because of the price that is being offered. My question is, can you Duracoat or put another style of finish on the barrel to remove the stainless look? Sorry for the noob question but I rather look like a fool than commit funds to something I really dont want.

Yes
The only prep required for stainless steel is degreasing. You can use brake cleaner or the Duracoat degreaser. If your seriously compulsive obsessive, you could bead blast, but it really isn't necessary.
Duracoat is easy to apply and very tough, in my experience.
I had an SS barrel on a ULA done with a proprietary (matte dark grey) finish, aluminum tri nitride IIRC. Co$ty, but it has held up very well.

I just noticed, yesterday, that White Oak Armament offers duracoat finishes on their stainless AR barrels. From my experience with WOA, if they are offering it, it can be done well.

Air Conda i was in the same issue 2 years back i wanted an M1A but the best priced one had a stainless barrle, but as stoky said no prep is needed just paint it and be happy shooting it. If you are tite on money i would also recomend ACE high heat automotive paint in a can i tried that on a mini 14 over the summer and it has held up quite well.

Thanks from bustedknuckles

I think DuraCoat makes a special paint called DuraHeat for stainless barrel's like the M14 that get really hot. I want to paint mine someday but am waiting till I get all the info I need. I've never painted a rifle.

Question Paint Thickness

Will not the thickness of the paint prevent you from removeing the gas system, or are you just going too paint every thing in place. I have not had my gas system off yet and have been wondering if there is clearence for paint.
Thanks or asking the question.
