I went to a gun show in Batesville Miss. today and almost bought an M1a. The seller let me fieldstrip it and inspect the parts. It was a SAI receiver, SA bolt and op rod, and a winchester barrel. The TG had an I on it and I have never seen one with an I on it. I called everyone I could think of that might know and nobody was sure of what it was. I think I might go back tommorrow and see if I can take something to trade. it was a nice looking gun with a nice walnut stock. So does anybody know what an I trigger group is?
Those SAI trigger housings seem to have held up OK - i.e., no reputation for irregular dimensions or pin holes opening up. I wouldn't let the commercial housing be a deterrent if the trigger feels right and the safety works as it should. The internals are probably mostly USGI, the hammer being somewhat important.
