N.Ctb, thank you! I'm not aware of the purpose of the mystery markings on the Chinese parts (trigger housing, bolt, operating rod, flash suppressor). However, the fact that the Chinese parts assembled on to the Chinese M14 rifles imported into the United States were made in 1965 has something to do with it. Note, the parts used to assemble complete imported rifles were made in 1965 whereas the imported receivers were made after 1978.

Does this make sense? Just got the scope mounted last month, long wait for rings. Hope to test fire coming Sunday.

Was BSing with a ATF agent I work with from time to time and he is working a case where a poly ak was traced after being used in a murder and it came back to a guy in Tx. The agent calls and asks if the rifle had been sold or stolen or what ever, the guy laughs at the agent and tells him the gun was locked up in his gun safe. The agent talks with the guy and the guy e-mails the agent a pic of the gun and the ser#. The gun had the exact same number as the one used in the murder! After a few weeks of checking he is finding where a lot of poly and norenco products have a twin out there. He was pissed that it was not caught when the things were imported but said 'bureaucrats' and shook his head.
Just to let you know incase you have more than one guy post the same ser #.

There were forty-four M1 Garand rifles that left Springfield Armory (Springfield, MA) with the same serial number. That was never caught either.

Here's another for you.

On the left side of the receiver just behind the bolt latch:

M-14S .308
IDE USA SLFD MICH.
POLYTECH CHINA 218xx

Has lug-less but slotted flash hider and laminated stock.
