I just helped a buddy get an Polytech M14.
It has on the left side:

POLYTECH CHINA 14639

It came with a stock FS, USGI bolt, stock, hammer, and trigger.

On the Chinese M14 rifles,

KFS import dates - 1988 to before March 1989 (only imported Poly Technologies)
Century Arms International import dates - 1990 to 1993 (rifles and receivers, imported both Poly and Norinco)
IDE USA / CJA import dates - 1993 for Poly Technologies and (pre-September) 1994 for Norinco

This is the information I have so far.

Different;

I have one that doesn't quite fit the mold. It has the usual M14S .308 on the left side of the receiver, followed by IDE USA SFLD MICH.
POLYTECH CHINA

The weird thing is the serial numbers, which is C-3***.

I bought it used from the original owner, but he wasn't quite sure when it was. It sounds like the early '90's. I'm puzzled by the C- in front of the serial. It doesn't sound like a Polytech serial number. I thought the letter in front of the serial meant Norinco?

"PoiDog, can you e-mail me some photos of the receiver markings?"

Yes, sir. My first chance will be Friday or Saturday, but photos will be coming your way on the weekend.

By the way, the rifle seems to have a walnut stock, rather than the mystery wood like you see on Norinco SKSs for example.

I also looked all over the rifle for other markings, and came up empty except for a 5 digit number up inside the mag well. Not the same number as the serial on the receiver. I'm not sure of the significance of this number.

Thanks, PoiDog. We'll have a look see.

The mystery wood used on the Chinese M14 rifles was chu wood from northern Manchuria. IDE USA did import Poly Technologies M14/S models with walnut stocks though.

I just received-

M-14S.308
IDE USA SFLD MICH.
POLYTECH CHINA 0519X

BTW- the Bolt is marked: Serial number lightly 'scratched" on top" and either 10/88 or 10/68 "engraved" on bottom. I'm thinking it would be more like 88 but it looks like 68. Trigger group is marked too, but I think that is just a part number.
