Thanks, spcamno. That blog is posting information I have posted on another board regarding Chinese receiver numbers.
Yes, the numbers below the stock line are a date code. That's from Ron Smith at Smith Enterprise. Smith Enterprise was consulted by Poly Technologies in the 1980s regarding its (then new) production of Chinese M14 receivers. Those numbers below the stock do indicate when a receiver was made.
Your receiver was manufactured in March 1994.
Got another Norinco M14s last week this one is from Marstar:
Serial # 0104xx stamped 2007 still in cosmo so the hidden number is unknown until I degrease it.
Mine has all that CAI jazz on the barrel, too. I have two SN's: on the left side above the stock is electro pencil 96813, just above where the rear lug should be, and below the stock just behind the op rod cross pin is 9 68 19.
The stock has, in red painted numbers 62006824;
And lastly, the trigger group has 710325. The bolt has 2 or three different number groups inscribed on it. Nears I can thell, this thing is a mutt! And I love it dearly.
I just picked up a used and abused Norinco cheap. It's marked as follows on the top rear of the reciever:
C.A.I. ST ALB VT
The Serial # on the left side is C00106
The trigger housing assembly is electro pencil marked on the upper left side 026820. The #'s are upside down. Anyone know if this is the stock chinese trigger pack? It looks like it's built with a lot more care than the rest of the rifle which is on par with a Romanian AK-47 in some respects.
It's got an beat up oversized stock that some yahoo took a belt sander to on the right side of the pistol grip. The selector hole has been filled with epoxy and the stock liner looks to be a epoxied in as well. The brown fiberglass heat shield looks like new. It has a narrow woodland camoflaged non adjustable sling that is permanently sewn to the sling mounts. The previous abuser, I mean owner, did install a SEI Vortex flash hider before covering the metal parts of the rifle in what I suspect is greenish parkerized colored Duracoat.
Ughhhh! I've got work to do.
Can anyone tell me what year approximately this thing was built.
