| Any M14s with ACOGs?
I'm thinking about a TA-55 ACOG for my M1A. Anybody have any M14/ACOG pics?

They sit too high. My buddy did his Bush with a JAE G2, GDI mount and ACOG. It just did not work out, so I now have the JAE, and another member has the ACOG for his AR10, and my buddy is back to a USGI synthetic stock and iron sights.

any scope will sit too high for proper cheek weld if it is mounted above the reciever. I am planning on getting one of those adjustable cheekrests like Karsten and Desert Warrior makes. I don't think height will be a problem.

It comes down to preference.....IMO my ACOG sits high on my AR as well, but I've gotten use to it....not sure if I would put one on my M14....guessing it would look like this....it's no a TA55, but hey....
for the money you'd spend...not sure it would be worth it....quick acquisition and bullet drop are nice....but the M14 platform is probably better suited for a mil-dot type scope...however, it depends on your rifle--Scout, SOCOM, etc and the shooting your expecting to be doing

I've been wanting a similar ACOG set up on my SOCOM 16 but have been concerned with the $$$ vs. usefulness of such a set up. Any users with pics of the SOCOM 16 with an ACOG setup they can share with the shootability of it.

Not a SOCOM but a Bush. I class the ACOG as a combat optic not a sniper although they can be quite useful as a DCM. I know guys who used the 4X (NSN or TA31 type) in the sandbox on M14's and were getting hits at 800 meters on a regular basis. These were 5.56 ACOG's but they had them dialed in and were effective at extended range, plus if you miss with the first round you have 19 more waiting ;-). I really like the TA33R-9, good eye relief and low (three) power that can be used with both eyes open, almost as fast as a red dot up close.
Here is a photo showing height, with Vltor stock CRT with smallest riser it's about the same as you have with an AR.
And here is same rifle with GDI mount and TA01 4 power note the eye relief difference. |

I just got the scope last week -- TA55A, 5.5x. Man, that is one sweet scope, let me tell you. That bindon aiming concept really does work... looking through it with both eyes open, it is just like having an unmagnified red dot. It's got ballistic compensation and rangefinding out to 1200m. It looks like it will be great for what I want: rounds on target as quickly as possible and high 1st hit probability, from close quarters out to 800 or 1000. Its going on a standard 22" rifle, btw.
I'm mounting it a little differently than the usual way... I have a UTG forward rail handguard (which I am really impressed with quality-wise, btw), and I'm waiting on a LaRue LT-608 cantilever mount for it that will extend back over the action. That way the whole optic and mount will be quick-detach. The guy at Larue said that since that is a limited-production mount, they may have to c&c me up one, so it may be a couple weeks before I get it. I will post pics and a range report as soon as I do.

was a 5.56 ACOG but I was using this M-14 as a main battle rifle and was just looking for extra punch if i were to have to try to stop a vehicle or something like that. I worked very well for me.

I don't know... it would have to clear the stripper clip guide. The LT608 was designed for the Sage EBR. I knew the 608 would work with the Leapers rail because the leapers was noticably taller than the Sage rail in pics.
If you could sit your scout side by side with a Sage stock, or compare some photos from the same angle, you would have your answer.
