New Scout Build

First build on my own. Thanks to TonyBen and others too numerous to be named.

Bula Receiver from the group buy.
Bula Chrome lined 19.25" barrel from Forum member
LRB Bolt
LRB Muzzle Brake
CMP USGI gas cylinder unitized by Huey Gunner
New Bula op rod
USGI parts from CMP kit
Trigger group consisting of Chinese housing and guard withs USGI internals tuned up by Huey Gunner
M14.CA Scout hand guard.
Leopold FX2 Scout scope.

Originally in AG Composites stock. On testing found that I had problems locking the mag in place. 20 rounds down range on Monday but the magazine kept rocking forward and I didn't get a good grouping to report. Thanks to a great thread by Gus Fisher I was able to narrow problem to the stock trigger group interface. Note: the stock worked fine in my LRB. So into the CMP wood stock and all is well with the mag. Off to the range tomorrow.

Awards Showcase

Sounds like a great build, I have heard from several people in the know that the Bula parts are outstanding.

Went to a beginner competition today and found myself a wee bit under equipped with my scout build. Luckily a generous shooter loaned me an amazing bolt gun with a great optic and I was to reach out to 750 yards with accuracy. We did attempt to sight in my rifle and had trouble moving the windage to a good zero. That's when the range owner thought another rifle might be best for long range and a windy day. Any way below are the zeroing attempt with the circled at the same elevation. Lake city XM80. BTW, muzzle velocity averaged 2747 for a 19.25 inch barrel.

Thanks from tonyben

How far away from this target were you? The rifle seems to be grouping decent with ball ammo.

Well done.
XM80 is not the best ammo to be doing accuracy testing with.

What's a good commercial ammo to get an accuracy check? Federal Gold Medal 168 or 175? I'll probably primarily be using a battle sight zero and ball for this rifle since it's my Walter Mitty/Apocalypse build.

FGMM 168gr is kind of like the standard for accuracy tests, my rifle shoots it better than anything else I have tried.

FGMM 168 would be my recommendation.
