I served with the 3rd Inf, from Jan 1968 through Aug. 1969, a very active period for the unit, ( daily full honor funerals, Martin Luther King riots in D.C., RFK assasination, Nixon Inauguration, Eisenhower State Funeral, along with MOH award ceremonies at the White House, etc.). There was also a uniform change in Jan. 69...the dress blues were changed from having removeable epaulets to what is still being worn.
It seems amazing that there is a growing disrespect being shown at the Tomb by crude spectators. Even during the height of the Viet Nam protests we never had such rudeness shown at this hallowed site.
My old platoon Sgt., Joe Deas became Tomb Commander in mid 1969 and one of my squad members attained his goal of being accepted as a Tomb Guard. Both men were from Bravo Co.
