I started the Georgia Rifle season successfully this morning.

At about 10:45 this Spike - Buck tried to sneak through my "Kill-Zone" but I was awake (thankfully) and made a good shot dropping the buck in it's tracks.

The rifle was my newly built JRA 19.25" rifle using one of my new finished Big Red "Hardened Stocks." The rifle shoots 1 MOA and the weapon and trigger man performed well! She is 1 for 1.

Not the biggest deer I have killed, but I am on the board for 2015!

The load was 42 grains of 4895 and 165 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip - they just work for me! I will have smoked sausage made from this one.

A few pics: M1Army

Here is the rifle right after the build:

Here she is opening morning up in the tree stand "Ready"

A pic after returning to camp:

Doe Slayer strikes again

Took the whitetail in August on a game damage hunt. Shot the muley doe this last Friday. With the antelope I shot (posted here: My First Bolt Gun) my freezer is full. Haven't bought beef since I shot the whitetail.

My suppressed M1A Scout was along as back-up, but this was my first hunt with my dad's custom M1917, so I at least get credit for some steel and wood this year. My M1A Loaded (irons) took three whitetail last year in Texas.

This is northern Lincoln County, NV, after five days in the field. I passed on a spike opening day; this was the first buck we saw after that. Hunting is hunting in Nevada! This 3x3 is my biggest mule deer yet, and physically much bigger than my first whitetail, a 3x4, in Texas.

Our firearms season does not start til mid November. We can't use real rifles to hunt with in Indiana because Indiana Fudds are too stupid to use rifles. I refuse to hunt with a shotgun anymore so I'm limited to bow or flintlock. I finally got to go bow hunting yesterday and saw 2 deer, but both were way out of bow range. Both would have been outside of ethical shotgun range too, but would have been an easy shot for any real rifle.

Can you guys hunt with handguns down there? The southern half of the mitten is afflicted with a shotgun zone....

Yes we can use handguns and rifles that fire certain approved handgun rounds. There are case and bullet dimensions to go by. I do have a nice Uberti '73 that is chambered in .44-40 that is legal, but after the Fudds and anti-gunners shot down the regular rifle cartridges proposal earlier this year I refuse to buy the modern gun license.

Haven't managed to get onto any deer yet, but this mangy guy came around the corner creeping through the tall grass along the edge of the field. Had he not been mangy he would have been a fairly decent sized dog, his head was rather large

He was facing me mostly, round entered high on the shoulder didn't exit. 155 amax, I was definitely expecting an exit hole. I am super impressed with these amax bullets, I have shot a few yotes with a 6mm 105amax, no exits. As well as my deer last year at 400M no exit. Hopefully I can get into a deer with my m305 before the end of the season.

He was 165M away, first kill on the M1A platform for me.

You guys are getting me fired up. I recently purchased a Scout but I won't have an optic for it this season. My shots will be inside 100 yards so I'll be hunting with irons. Can't wait.

I really don't like killing anymore, but I sure enjoy lining up my prey.
I call this a 2 for. Took photo out at Whittington center in New Mexico a couple of years ago.

Second photo was taken the same day. This is for the concrete bench rest pistol hunters. And for the city boys, a tether can be attached to a hind leg on the dear so you don't have to walk to far to retrieve your game.

Nice pics & hunting gents. I just put my name in a hat for a lottery draw on a nanuq/polar bear hunt coming up. If my name gets pulled I have 36 hrs to go find & shoot one with my ROCHELLE.(Springfield M1A) We shall see if my name gets pulled or not. Cheers,
