He looks tired.

It appears he's got a wrap around his mag. Anyone have some insight as to why?

And I'd just like to say how much I LOVE this thread. THANK YOU ALL!

Looks like his rifle has been around the block several times.

It appears he has two mags taped together.

Thanks from Brenneman

Good eyes! Thanks, I didn't pick that up. The bottom of the "mag" loaded does not appear to be flat and look like the top of a mag. Hope he didn't lay that in the muck when prone and firing!

Looks like the Sarge is wearing a 1st ID, 1/2 Battalion., 16th Infantry Regiment patch on his pocket.

Probably a 1965 photo.

2/28 Inf, Big Red One Photo

This is my first post other than an introduction so I hope I'm not messing up.

I was a combat photographer in RVN with the First Infantry Division. I got there in '69 and, by that time, everybody was issued 16s. The Big Red One was pretty strict that everyone carry the same weapons for obvious reasons but I did see a few 14s out there along with some other weapons, i.e., Thompsons, M-3s (I had one of those). Anyway, I dug around in a few photos and found this one of troopers with either Charlie or Delta Company, 2nd Battalion of the 28th Infantry Regiment:

If you look closely, behind the guy carrying the M-60, you can see the stock of a 14. By the way, that was a hot LZ.

Mike

Thanks from Buelligan, elvis3006, MrM1A and 2 others
