New Scope for the EMR!

I bought a new Trijicon AccuPoint 5-20x50 Amber-Mil dot scope for my EMR (I can't afford a Schmidt & Bender)

I put the Vortex Viper HS that was on the M1A on the brand new Ruger 10/22 Target that I just bought!!!

I just mounted it today so no range report yet.

Here ya go...

You can rotate the cover on the fiber optics and control the amount of light that gets in...

closed all the way

the dot in the cross hairs is illuminated via the fiber optics and tritium so even in complete darkness you can maintain a point of aim!

It came with a sun shade, lens pen and an allen wrench for the elevation and windage towers.

I tend to buy (charge on my Cabelas card) weapons that I can use at work so that I can write them off and pay off the card!!!

The Zombie Apocalypse could happen at any time so don't get caught unprepared because you are being responsible... :)

LOL, plus you get Cabela's points to use on future purchases...I do the same thing except I can't wright it off.

Other than the fact the Viper HS is not an illuminated scope, is there any other reason you chose to remove it? Were the cross hairs on the Viper visible in lower light or did you find them a bit hard to see in those conditions?

Thanks!

I wanted a nicer scope for the M1A and I had store credit at the local gun shop.
This was the only nice scope in stock and I wasn't going to put the Trijicon on my 10/22!!!
The cross hairs on the Vortex are very fine and better for precision shooting than the Trijicon. They are kind of hard to see in low light and they get out of focus easily.

The Cabelas is 30 min from me!!!
We can use a Rem 700 .308 or a M1a so I have both

Big Gulp...thanks for the info regarding the Vortex; that is what I suspected but did not know for sure since I have not put my hand on that particular one. I do have a Viper PST 1-4 and I recently found that it could also use a bit heavier crosshairs in low light. At least it is illuminated which negates how hard they were for me to see just after sunrise on a recent deer hunt. I am still thinking about putting the Viper PST 2.5-10 on my other M1A.

30 minutes from Cabelas!!! Now that would be dangerous! The nearest one is 6 hours from me. I was in Salt Lake last weekend; forgot there was a Cabela's there.

I am happy with the Viper HS. It was great on my M1 but I needed a better Scope for bad guy's and Coyotes alike and the Trijicon fits that bill nicely.

The Cabelas is in Lehi about 20-30 minutes south of SLC, depending on how many Utards are on I-15... there are at least 5 other places I go to before I go to Cabelas. They don't give me a Law Enforcement or Military discount and their prices are generally too high. There customer service is horrible too. I am not a big game hunter so I tend to go to the Cop Shop first for my gear.

I just got back from sighting in the new scope...

I was using the BINDON AIMING CONCEPT (both eyes open) and I am impressed with this optic.
I have always shot with both eyes for CQB and one eye for long range scopes. Even on 20 power it was easy to find the target using both eyes and the amber color was easy to see. I have read a few other reviews where they preferred the red or green over the amber. I am very pleased with the amber color and the scope in general. The eye relief is perfect for the EMR and I dont have to move forward on the cheek riser when I zoom in to 20X.

The elevation and windage knobs are easy to read and there are audible tactile clicks when making changes. Both the elevation and windage settings are 1/4 MOA whitch I like. My Vortex is 1/4 MOA elevation and 1/2 MOA windage and it bugs me. I use a 5.11 watch with the ballistic computer in it for long range work and it makes things a lot easier when the scopes elevation and windage settings match. The scope came with the allen key to return the knobs to the zero setting after you sight it in. I sighted mine in at 100 yds.

The guys next to me had a 2'x1' log set up at 300 yds and I was able to quickly transition from my 100 yd target to the log and with the scope on 20X I could easily see the rounds impact on the log. I was using Hornady 168gr TAP Precision rounds and they were tearing big chunks off of the log! I can only imagine how much damage they would do to soft tissue.

As a bonus, one of the guys shooting next to me had a Ruger Gunsite Scout rifle. I let him shoot my M1 and he let me shoot his. I loaded three rounds of Federal 168 gr OTM and shot a 2 MOA group with iron sites off the bi pod!!! It was a lot lighter than my EMR so I noticed the recoil and significant muzzle jump. It had a factory flash hider and could certainly benefit from a muzzle break.

Got a setup really similar to yours and I've been bouncing back and forth between that same Trijicon and the Leupold Mark 4 LR/T 4.5-14x50 M1. Such a tough decision! Both are more or less the same price, curious if anyone has had experience with both? I am seriously stuck in the middle and need to come to a decision by the 15th, 'cause most of that paycheck will be going toward one or the other!

I have the Mark IV 4.5-14x50 M5 on my Remington 700 and it is a great scope for a precision rifle. The EBR is more suited for the trijicon and vise verse... the Accu point has a better eye relief and the dual illumination makes it fast on target. The Trijicon is great for the money and I like it on a semi auto...
