Desert Shield M-14

Apologies in advance if this pic is a duplicate here. It took me a long time to track down so I thought it might be new to some of the forum members here.

I finally tracked down this pic of a SEAL during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm that was originally featured in Soldier Of Fortune magazine around '92-93.

I initially searched for the pic because I remembered the field expedient sling, which I thought was a good solution for my M1A...and is!

Beyond that I thought it was interesting to see the choice of weapons. While I'm aware of the long history of SEALs fielding the M-14, it's still great to see the bone stock M-14 and large frame revolver (in shoulder rig).

While there is nothing wrong with iron sights, this pic really illustrates the fundemental shift in technology and tactics over the past twenty years. As uncommon as optics were in '91 is as common as they are in '11.

Anyway, an interesting and rare pic that I thought I'd share with y'all.

I'll have to dig through an old stack of magazines but I think I actually have that issue of SOF. Back during that time, I occasionally read that magazine but haven't even seen a copy since the early 90s.

KYShooter,

If you do find this issue, can you post the caption in the photo? It was pretty general, nothing specific...Notes the field expedient tube webbing sling.

Anyway, thought it would be cool to have the few words that go with this pic.

Except for that green rag tied around his head.
I've always thought that to be very unprofessional.

I'm from the old school where you wore your uniform properly.
