I picked the Bassett mount (short, standard) after a lot of agonizing because:
1-it doesn't require any modification to the rifle.
2-the single bolt and index system holds on tight and doesn't shoot loose.
3-I can still use my iron sights, even with the low style mount......this will not be the case if you have a scope with a large diameter eyepiece. I use a Nikon Prostaff. If you chose a 'fat' scope, select the Bassett tall mount.
4-The mount/scope unit will remove in seconds if needed and go back on in short order, without losing zero (not much, anyway).
5-Because it removes so easily, I can clean the rifle a bit easier without the scope in the way and serving as a solvent catch.
6-relatively low price.
7-very well made.
8-He's from Texas.

Thanks from Whatsinaname181 and AirConda

An LRB M25 short rail. Perfect Answer to mount problems.

+1 Oldflyboy said it all, I like the Bassett. I tried a couple of others but the Bassett is on my rifle now.

Sadlak Airborne if I had to use one. I have an LRB M25 with a reworked extended rail, no more mount issues for me.

LRB M25 for a dedicated scoped rifle. Bassett of whatever flavor for the rest. Nothing better either way, IMHO.

Talking quality choices

with the available quality mounts, one has to do some contemplation. i prefer the arms mount and rings, low and close.

Talking

I have a Sadlak on one gun now that works good. And plan to get a Basset for my other gun. With all the good revues I'm sure I'll be happy with it too.

Life is good!

I have had the Brookfield Precision Tool mounts on my rifles for the last 15+ years with no issues. Plus I like the retro look with the Leupold & Stevens Ultra M1 scopes.

I believe the Sadlak mount is a product improved Brookfield design. I have the Sadlak 101st Airborne mount and love it. Works great and has a definite "cool factor" to it. I've never used any other mounts, so I can't say much about them....

Sadlak steel mount. This is one solid design. I have used the ARMS and feel the Sadlak is a much better design. They are rock solid machined very well and their customer service is above and beyond. I like the length of the mount and the height requires no mod to the handguard like the Arms does because it sits so low. It is also one good looking mount. If I every get a second rifle and need a mount I know where my money is going. Plus for what the mount offers the price is hard to beat you can even get an aluminum mount a skelotonized steel mount, a steel mount or Titanium if weight and strength are your priority! They are tough to beat in my book!
