I guess if they ever make a knock off of a S&B I might just get it for my 22 for aesthetic reasons.

Thumbs up Crap is crap & good is good no matter what country.

But......This thread is about fake Leupolds, and it will not become Poly Sci debate.
Once China got "most favored nation" status, the flood gates were opened. Thanks, Nixon.

I am as much a loyal American as anyone, probably even more so, but when I lay my money down, I want a QUALITY item. Not junk, no matter what country made it.

Hesse FAL rx = US made = crap!
DSA RX = US made = AWESOME!
Hungarian 20rd AK mags = great!
US made 20rd mags that even wobbled in the mag well = crap!

I am VERY PROUD to say there are some things MADE IN THE USA that we build better than anyone in the world. It is a long list.

There are also a few things the Chinese make that are very good too, but most of what they make is junk. The things I have had personally that were pretty good and made in China were....

a.) AK 75 rd drum mags. They still go for a premium IF you can find one.
b.) that $19.95 .177 caliber air rifle made of wood & steel. Remember those? A comparable Daisy or Benjamin would cost $80 or more & then there was still plastic all over it.
c.) Happy endings! (nuff said)

We are in a GLOBAL ECONOMY like it or not. It is not going to go away. What should and needs to go away are fakes & el cheapo imitations as addressed by the OP, and regular goods that are junk from the beginning NO MATTER WHAT COUNTRY THEY COME FROM.

AS AN ASIDE: Japan vs. China = NO CONTEST. My JAPANESE built steel receiver Browning BLR-81 in 308 is better than even the more recently US made aluminum ones. One has to go back to the original Belgian made rifle for comparable quality.

RNS

Thanks from MrShmitty

I personally think Leupold scopes are junk anyway .That is probably why it is hard to tell them from Chinese junk. The few I have purchased have let me down . A serious shooter should go to Zeiss , Schmidt & Bender , Hensoldt , IOR or Meopta in my humble opinion .I have used these scopes in some extreme conditions and the German scopes quality would be hard to copy as a buyer would be able to just look through it and tell right away as the glass is that much superior to anything else .

Thanks from ptalar

It didnt have schmidt and bender written on it. Our 40s use to have SB and have now switched to premiere, durring the SB time out DMR 14 had a Knight Force and the Mk12 had a 3.5-10 Leupold. In the hot dessert sun, and cold winters the leupold performed and looked just as clear as the SB and KF. The turrets offered solid ticks and they tracked just as well. They were dropped, kicked, and treated just as bad as any other Marine Issued Gear. The Leupold scopes are good, plain and simple, just as 1 in like a 1,000,000 have an issue with a SAI M1a the same will have an issue with the Leupy. Law of averages, based on the sheer number they sell.

I have had 6 : three leaked and fogged on winter hunting trips , 2 would constantly loose zero and were sent back on numerous occasions but never fixed and another rear lens became separated during recoil . The Marine Corps tried a Leupold variable on the DMR for a while and had so many issues they were recalled and the 25 year old Unertl 10x replaced it with zero issues . I have had some issues with the European scopes also but mostly Kahles / Swarovski leaking and fogging issues. Most people don't hunt a lot in winter conditions but I do and it brings out the worst in scopes that sitting on a rifle range bench will never show . Also the glass is like looking through dishwater compared to German glass .Leupold is a cheap entry grade scope but not one for a serious rifleman.

Norlander, if you have had so much trouble with Leupold then why did you buy six of their scopes? It's not like they are the only available option and never have been. Me thinks thou exageruth.

All Leupold riflecopes are fully machined and assembled in the US.

Go to Sniper's Hide and ask the site owner, Lowlight. He runs a tactical shooting school and he is a part of the big time tactical matches. Ask him which brand of scope has the most failure in the field, including from military guys who use his range.

Or another test, ask the guys who use the scopes and shoot for a living if they have one brand of scope to choose, which one would it be.

There is a member here who teaches tactical shooting classes, ask him which brand has the most failures in his classes.

How about the guys who are not bound by issue stuff, I wonder which brand do they prefer and buy

Good point Bamban. I stand corrected Leupold scopes are mostly machined and completely assembled in the US. I hope this is not a violation of ROE here but here are a couple links to Lowlight's postings on Leupold. Seems he is a fan.

There is something that needs to be said.

The whole GGrey market exact copy products a discussed in this thread is totally separate from the fake air soft stuff that is everywhere.

My brother plays air soft and has a lot of that stuff some is decent others are total garbage.

He has had this scope for at least a year and never knew he was scamed.

I wonder how many people here caught your "Reupold" pun.
