Most of these will be Israeli used units. The thing is bulletproof, except for the image tube which wears out just like tires on your car. Eventually they die.

Gen 2 in a PVS-4 is pretty darn good. There are now Gen 3 tubes for the PVS-4 but they aren't cheap or easy to find. The last PVS-4 I used in the .mil was still gen 2, but I have used gen 3 goggles. A Gen 3 tube in a PVS-4 would be awesome.

try this

im looking for NV optic also, what ive come up with is a neat little item called a PS22. it mounts in front of your scope on the same rail so you done need to rezero. all you need is a extended base. It comes with the rubber boot that seals the gap between the two optics. This way you can put it on any rifle you want with an extended base, or flat top. http://www.opticsplus.net/SpecialDeals

Here's another source:

This guy makes some very good points about PVS-4s of "unknown origin." He sells Israeli returns with the Israeli data/serial number labels intact, which pretty much proves it's a retail surplus unit. Units with USGI serial numbers and labels would be harder to document the provenance of, might be worth a couple hundred extra dollars to buy from an established dealer that has a paperwork trail on the unit.

That being said, I have looked at some recent sales on ebay and several PVS-4s with good Gen II tubes have gone for 1K or less with all the trimmings. I think PVS-4 market prices are falling, possibly due to the wide availability of new retail scopes based on the now common 18mm MX-10160 type image tubes.

caveat emptor
