Sadlak mount, rings and scope...?

I have a Springer NM M1A and I am going to be installing a scope on it. I have decided on a Sadlak Titanium mount and a Burris 312 XTR illuminated mil-dot reticule.

My question is about, 1, scope mount and 2, scope rings and 3, reviews of the Burris XTR scope line....
I am going with the Sadlak Titanium scope mount not because it's tacti-cool or whatever. It's what Brownell's has in stock. I understand that it is pretty light and strong. But is there any issues about those scope mounts that I am missing? I know with the A.R.M.S. scopes there have been issues with brass not ejecting because of the low clearance.
My second question is this. As far as scope rings go, I want to keep the scope as low to the receiver as I possibly can. With a scope that has a 50mm objective, will I be able to use low scope rings or will I need medium scope rings? As well, which is preferred; aluminum or steel rings? Should I use a 2 screw rings or 4 or 6 screw rings? Or are those just ways to get more of my money?
With the Burris XTR scopes, anyone have any solid experience with them? I've only fondled them at Cabella's but I really liked them.
Thanks for the time guys.

1. Isn't the Sadlak Titanium a $400 mount? There are less expensive alternatives, and they're in stock.

2. The easiest/best way to do this is to wait 'til you have the scope and the mount, and then mock it up to see how tall the rings need to be.

3. Steel. Aluminum rings are plenty strong, but screwing steel screws into aluminum threads is a bad idea. I like Warne rings.

4. Again, I doubt that you'll need anything beefier than standard Warne rings. AFAIK, the bulkier scope rings just limit your flexibility in mounting the scope further fore or aft (and some say "tacticool," but I say "cheesy").

That's just my 2˘,

Bimmer

You might want to do a forum search on Burris scopes as well...

The Burris XTR scopes are among the few that have a rear tube long enough to put the ocular bell behind the rear sight rather than over it, which means you can get the scope lower for a better cheek weld and back far enough for good eye relief. As a point of reference for you, I got the XTR 6-24x50 to just clear both ends (about 1/16") on an ARMS #18 using Burris medium ZEE rings. Since the Sadlak rail is a bit higher, the rings you choose could be a bit lower, but not by much.

I had a Smith mount which is similar to the Sadlak mount. I had a Leupold 6.5-20X50 on it with Leupold Mk4 medium rings. Later after getting an M25 receiver I was able to mount the same scope with Badger Ordnance standard rings and just clear the handguard and rear sight. The M25's rail sits lower than the Smith or Sadlak rail so rings in that height range should be fine. I spent a lot of time researching scopes and taking measurements to decide on what scope to get to replace the Leupold for the M25 build. I've decided and am now saving for it but in the process I made a pretty big spreadsheet with all the details of my rifle's measurements, the scope's measurements and the ring measurements. This way I could just plug in measurements and instantly see how it affects the fit and show any clearance issues. Took a lot of time to make but is well worth it if you can get the measurements.
