Scope Repair Service ?

I have a Bausch and Lomb Elite 4000 that is 6-24x40. It is one of the best scopes I've ever owned in terms of clarity, sight picture, and tracking.

It was the first scope I ever had and I had worked to save up the cash to buy it.

I've always taken really good care of it, but recently the following happened:

1. I took it out at about 5:00 am to do some daybreak shooting and when I got to the range, the objective lens was fogged up so bad that I couldn't see through it. There was also black a couple of spots of black goo inside on the scope's objective lens and it could not be wiped off.

2. I kept(and did keep) the scope in a dry, warm case in a warm part of my place(the safe is near the heating output vent and it stays warm there).

3. After some time in the warmed safe, the scope defogged enough for me to see through it and see the black stuff.

4. There is still a film on the inner part of the objective lens. The black specs are around the outside of the objective and they are either some sort of black grease that has leaked in, or else it is black mildew or black mold.

This was an excellent scope- it was the nicest, most powerful scope I've ever owned. It was also my first scope, and my first serious scope.

I have all the original warranty papers and manual that came with this scope- but I do not have the original receipt or the original box. This was a lifetime warranty scope, however.

I sent pics to Bushnell Customer service and they told me that the fact that the scope had scratches on the paint(I sent them pictures) and its age meant they would not warranty the scope as it was either natural wear or me abusing it. I don't abuse my equipment and I treat it all with respect.

Can anyone tell me where I can get this scope cleaned, repaired, and resealed so that this doesn't happen again ?

As described above, sending it to Bushnell is no good.

Any help is appreciated !

Is it that Bushnell won't fix it, or that they won't fix it for free?

Depending on the terms of the "lifetime" warranty, I might push the issue with them. If the warranty is only on defects, then you're pretty clearly not covered by the warranty.

If nothing else, I might pay to have them fix it.
