Different Scope Mount, M14/m1A

I just picked up a 'different' M14 scope mount.....It appears to mfg out of aluminum, it bolts to the side with one screw, which screw head is round with a rod through it so you can use that to tighen it up, and the mount has the horizontal and vertical keys? to fit the reciever grooves......the mount then hangs over the top of the reciever and has a M16 type (I was told)scope rail with a screw in the center of the rail. the mount is cast with these numbers on it "80063 SM-D-850390-1", This mount locks up great on a 'Springfield Armory, inc" reciever, I haven't tried it on my Chinese Norinco yet......Can anybody throw some light this way about who/what/when on this mount?.....thanks.....john......bobbike@vvm.com.... What you have is a Mounting Bracket Assembly, designed to mount a night vision sight AN/PVS-4 on the M14 rifle. The NSN is 5855-01-039-2833. Well made and fits extremely well on the rifle (unlike the SAI mount), it can be made to mate easily with an ACOG TA01 but you'll have to swap out the screw in the center of the rail, for one to fit the ACOG. You've also got to take the flat top adapter off the ACOG. The rail replicates the top u-shaped handle configuration of an M16, rather than a picatinny rail. It's designed so that the PVS-4 could be swapped easily between an M16 and the M14. Popular in Iraq with the army for mounting the ACOG rather than a longer scope on M14s, and doesn't come loose.

Has Anyone

tried placing a M2 or M3 dot scope on the Leapers front hand guard top rail? I am thinking of a bright rifle flashlight on one side and a laser on the other since I am of the senior citizen tribe--meaning I enlisted in 1956--.

many thanks, OverboreUSAF2

looking for an alternative

I recently (yesterday) brought a new Springfield Armory M1A home. The only modification that I was going to make was going to be to add one of these:

www. ultimak.com/M8.htm

(The link for the ultimak rail is not working, since I don't have 5 posts)

I plan on shooting with open sights for a while, but want the option of being able to add an optic with little hassle later down the line. Getting the plastic portion of the stock replaced with a functional rail is nice too. Problem is, the ultimak rail will not fit a medium weight barrel. Does anyone know of a similar product that will fit the the medium weight barrel of the S-A's "Loaded" M1A?

Thanks in advance.

Sadlac info

I put a Sadlac scope mount on my M14 and you can use the iron sights just fine... The scope mount is designed to be used that way ... How ever if you use the "low rings" on your mount and have a 50mm objective on your scope you might be out of luck...as the scope will block your view.. CAMOHELMET

Sadlak

I have an airborne mount on my current production SA M1A scout. It works fine. Sadlak is a great company to deal with, and they are very helpful. When you get the mount, get the receiver gauge set that comes with it. It allows you to measure your receiver and make sure it is in spec, and mates to the mount you received. He also will spec your receiver for you and custom make a mount to fit.

Found the answer

It looks like LRB found the answer to the scope mount problem. Well we all know about SA mil spec problems yada yada yada so I'm not gonna touch that. LRB makes the M25 receiver machined to fit a rail mount directly on top, similar to the rail mounts used for the Rem 700.

It looks solid and worth taking a look. Of course they also make the rail mount for this receiver to.

The only thing I'm interested in is the feed back on this receiver (anybody own one).

Its pricey but I would pay the money to get a 3 shot group in under a half inch at 100 yards.

I have one but the receiver alone won't give you 1/2 MOA groups. It does give a rock solid scope mounting platform but the rail space is limited so something to think about. You can adjust a little for windage which is nice especially considering I have windage stops on my scope so being centered is critical to get the max adjustment each way. The iron sight picture isn't the best but if you only use irons as back ups it'll do.

Thanks for the reply.
Is that a pic of your M1A? If so we have pretty much the same setup.

M1A standard mounted on a JEA-100 G2 stock.

US Optics SN-3 3.5-17X

I get the best results from Black Hills 165 gr. match.

At this moment I'm still in the process of tweaking, I can score a head shot no problem but my goal is getting that eyeball shot. I am 95% certain that its the mount. When its comes loose my shots are all over, I tighten and my shot pulls far left off target and I can tell when the mount is coming loose because the shots start to spread out. M25 on my JAE w/scope I feel is the perfect solution.
I also use my scope rings for windage first, just to get me on paper, from there I fine tune with the scope.

I just need more feedback on the M25 before I jump on it.

Iron sight use with sadlak mount

I just installed a Sadlak steel mount on my M-1A and installed the lowest scope rings to get closer to the bore axis. I cannot use the iron sights with this arrangement but can use them if I install the next size higher scope rings. I get the best accuracy with this rig and don't plan on using anything but the scope with this rifle. Hope this helps.

I have a Sadlak mount. Don't have a scope yet, but I was told as long as the scope is a 50mm obj. you will be able to use the iron sights. I can see the iron sights on my rifle with the mount installed. It has a "tunnel" that you look through. Hope this helps.

M1a scope mounts

I purchase a new MA1 National Match MA9222 (that was easy!). I also purchase a Leupold Mark 4 LR/T M1 4.5 14x50mm Mil Dot (semi easy!) Now I am looking for the scope mount. I have narrowed the choices down to
1-Smithenterprise has two choices; M14 Scope Mount, Wire EDM, NSN 5855-01-506-5750 or M14 Extended Scope Mount, Wire EDM, NSN 1005-01-533-8160

2- Fulton Armory M14/M1A PICATINNY SCOPE MOUNT,

3 Springfield Armory MA4GENAM 4th Generation Aluminum. These are in order of price high to lowest. I am mostly target shooting 100-1000 yards. Suggestions?

M14 Extended Scope Mount, Wire EDM, NSN 1005-01-533-8160

Springfield Armory MA4GENAM 4th Generation Aluminum.
I would eliminate these two from your list. The SEI M14 Extended Scope Mount is 7.0 " long, more than what you need for the Leupold & Stevens, Inc. scope.

The SA, Inc. Fourth Generation scope mount contacts the receiver at two points. All other things being equal, a scope mount with three points of contact with the receiver will be less likely to loosen than a scope mount with two points of contact.

The two remaining choices in your list are made of steel, contact the receiver at three points and have similar rail length.

Hi Different,

I have the S&K mount you described in your FAQ. I noticed that you barely covered the B-Square mount which I consider to be quite excellent if used properly. I typically put a 6.5 x 20 Leupold on top with Millet Angle Lock rings, and with that setup, I have been able to shoot groups under 1 MOA while removing the mount entirely from the rifle between shots.

Cant get much better performance from a mount than that.
