Scope Mount Problems

Well, I experienced it first hand. Bought a Sadlak Scope Mount, very similiar to a Brookfield, but a little tighter on the specs this past week. Fits great on a GI receiver, and older SA receivers, but on my new receiver, it just doesn't work. Why? Ask Springfield. Their receivers are out of spec. The horizontal groove on the left side is too narrow and too shallow for the mounts to use it properly, and on mine, the hole on the left of the receiver was back to far, and the stripper clip guide wasn't in the correct position and wasn't even level. Also, i believe older receivers had the top of the receiver over the chamber flattened slightly to allow a screw to be put there for better lock, the newer ones dont. Kinda hard to lock a screw onto a rounded object. SA changed some specs or are not holding to the real specs, which is throwing off a lot of scope mounts. Anyone else noticing this??? Needless to say, my rifle is en route to springfield for those problems, a messed up bolt roller which keeps throwing the retaining spring clips, and excessive blow by on the whole gas system :(

how new is your reciever that you are mounting ths scope on.? I have a Loaded that is about two years old. and everything seems ok but the channels in the reciever could be a bit deeper. everything else seems standard

My gun was test fired 10/30/03, receiver in the 160XXX range. The grooves in the receiver is one of the main places it was out of spec in, they should be .149" wide at the top, have a 60 degree basic angle as the sides, and the depth is variable, but there is a gauge to be used .0312" down that should fit in with a certain tolerance, according to the blueprints. My receiver grooves were .130" wide, and weren't very deep. Thats why you have to use a mallet to pound SA's scope mounts into place to keep their zero; their receivers have such a variation, they can't make a size to work, so you gotta pound it to force it or smoosh, depending which way off your receiver is. Also, my stripper clip guide was off, according to someone who worked for SA before, that piece isn't important to SA, so it varies constantly. Mine was crooked and wouldnt mate with the corresponding piece on the mount, although the mount mated pretty much perfectly with the other GI receivers. Also, my RMA # was in the 150XXX range. Anyone know if they # their receivers by type or anything? Ie, my reciever is in the 160XXX range, and return # in the 150XXX range. ANyone else find this unsettling???? Yeah, they make pistols too, anyone have a serial # range for a newer one?

I have a Sadlak titanium M14 scope mount. It works like a champ in my M1A serial numbers 030XXX, 052XXX and 134XXX. I spoke with Mike Sadlak regarding SA, Inc. receivers. Your experience lines up with what he told me. He also told me that the Smith Enterprise scope mount has a narrower horizontal key. That is the part that fits in the horizontal groove on the left side of the receiver. So, if you can find someone with an uninstalled Smith Enterprise mount you can try that on your SA, Inc. receiver.

Different, don't you love that mount? I got to see them on a GI receiver with the serial # in the 4 digits. That locked up incredibly solid! I cant wait to get my rifle back from SA so I can get that thing scoped!!! My receiver was so out of spec, it was pretty sad. The clip mount didnt line up, it was also crooked, and other measurements were off, as was the bolt and gas cylinder assembly.
