ART II scope index mark?

I have a new (to me) ART II scope and before I waste time at the range, I need to know where the index mark is on the scope to line up the range cam numbers on.
It's probably plain as day but as it is, I can't find it and I need to have someway of making sure when I'm shooting at 300, it's set on 3 and not just "somewhere close".
Any help?

There isn't one.

Lock the range cam to the power ring in autorange mode, using the lock inserted into the big v shaped notch. Wiggle it in nice and snug then tighten the screw. Make sure it is firmly engaged in the notch by moving the assembly back and forth a few times, make sure there is no slop between the lock tab and the v notch.

Rotate the assembly to the 3 setting. Make a mark with a pencil on the scope tube, best you can line it up, with the 3. Now zoom up to the 9 setting, and see if the mark lines up with the 9. If it does, that's the spot. If it's off a bit, split the difference and make a new mark.

It make take a few tries, but you should end up with a pencil mark on the scope tube that more or less aligns with both the 3 and the 9. That's the spot. Make a small dot there with white paint and a toothpick.

That's your reference dot for range.

EDIT: I should have asked which range cam you have. Is it marked from 3-9, or 1-10? If so, it's a military cam calibrated for M118 173gr match ammo, in meters. If it's marked from 1.5 to 4.5, it's a civilian cam calibrated for 150-450 yards for a civilian cartridge, depending on which cam it is.

Thanks from XM25Ren, Area51 and Wasted ammo

Also... I have put quite a bit of time (and money) into figuring out the mysteries of the Leatherwood ART II scope. The Leatherwood manual that most people either get with the scope or off of the Internet is kind of crappy, and leaves a lot of things out. The military sniper manuals are even worse, and barely even mention it.

I just suggest that before you spend a lot of time, and ammunition, trying to zero a scope that isn't set up right, you should read what has been posted here before. Use the search page, type in my user name, and keyword "leatherwood". I have posted a lot here about the proper way to install and adjust these scopes, and it's not in the manual.

Also, if you'd like, I have a collection of 20+ MB worth of documents, history, and my own notes on the ART II that I can forward to you. If you are interested, send me a PM with your email address and I will forward that info.

And, welcome to the forum!

Thanks from XM25Ren and Area51

Thanks a lot for the information. That's exactly what I needed to know.
I've been studying the info you posted in various topics regarding the scope and intend to take pictures of some of it to reference when I go to the range.
The scope I have is marked 1-10 and is all grey with green tint eyepiece and range and zoom rings. SN 61xx.
