Help with an older Trijicon

Hey guys, I have an older (early 2000s?) 1.5x-5x32mm trijicon scope but I can't seem to find much out about it... like if they even made one. Maybe my google-fu isn't strong, but i can't seem to turn anything up about it. It also seems that the tritium for the reticle is dead. I wanted to see if you guys know if trijicon can refuel the tritium and it this is a solid/acceptable optic to run on my SA Loaded M1a?

I read an article(it was on the internet so it must have been true) that Trijicon will refurbish an ACOG but the cost is close to what a new one would run. The thing to do would be to contact them and see if they still support your scope and go from there.

Trijicon

I don't know about their regular scope but I knew a man who worked at the local gun store who often had fits of rage that for some reason got mad at his AR and thru it on the floor with his Acog attached and broke the Acog. He shipped it back to the company and told them what happened and the replaced it on the spot with a new one..Don't discount them yet. As Polack said give them a ring!

I recently bought a an ACOG. I went to Trijicon's website and asked them if they knew when my model was built. I gave them the serial number and in two days they answered it was made in 2010.
It's a 4x32 TA31F and the tritium needs to be recharged.
I called Trijicon and this is what they told me.

I send them the sight, shipping on me. After they receive it they do a Free diagnostics on the sight. They put together a work order with a price quote and call me before any of the work is done. If I want the work done, they needed all the money from the quote. If I didn't want the work done, they send it back to me.
Over the phone they quoted me the cost to recharge the tritium. $188.00. They told me that the tritium and the filament needed to be replaced at the same time because they are one piece.

Hope that helps

Thanks from 2336USMC and Hobo Hilton

Talked to Trijicon on the phone Friday. It is just like the Dutchman said... They gave me the model and production date and said mail it in, $188 for the recharge and replacement and they mail it back. One thing I did really like and thought was kind of a surprise is that after they do the work they also renew the 10year factory warranty. I'm sending it in today.

Thanks from 2336USMC and Stevep51d

High Noone, please keep us posted as to how long the turn around is on your sight.
I hope it's fast.

I find that odd the tritium already needs recharging I thought the half life was 12 years , but I will admit I could be wrong. I have a ta31f I bought used 10 years ago and it still does well . either way for 188.00 to get recharged and a new fiber optic and tube thats a pretty good deal. they are an amazing optic congrats on your purchase.

It would vary depending on how bright the tritium cells were when new, as well as the individual's night vision. (Old eyes?)

While the half life of tritium is fixed, if the reticle is just bright enough when new it won't necessarily be 14.5 years or whatever before it seems too dim.

I bought one of the very first ACOGs made, serial number 2XX. Very shortly after buying it I found myself in the deserts of northern Saudi Arabia for Desert Shield/Storm. When new, the tritium in the ACOG was in my opinion actually too bright. At night in the desert with fully-night adapted eyes, the reticle was so bright that it actually washed out targets. That's a tradeoff, the brighter cells will last longer before they become too dim to use. IMO after about 5 years the tritium illumination was perfect. Now, after 27 years, the reticle can only just barely be seen in total darkness.

I have been thinking about sending that old scope in for new tritium, so I appreciate the updated info on cost. As I understand it I would also have to get a new reticle with the tritium cells, which is too bad because I have the old skool 1st generation reticle that they don't make anymore. I'd probably change it to the USMC TA31RCOM4 carbine reticle.

EDIT: The daddy of the ACOG was the British L2A1/L2A2 SUIT (Sight Unit, Infantry, Trilux). Very similar design, but the Brits put the tritium ("trilux" in British) in an adjustable knob, so by turning the knob you can move the tritium cell closer or farther from the reticle to control the brightness. I wish the ACOG had retained that feature. Plus, the knob comes off with just a circlip and the tritium cell can be replaced pretty easily right on the kitchen table.

Thanks from Thedutchman
