Question Optics Choices for M1941 USMC sniper

Gentlemen & Ladies of the group I would like to humbly request your knowledge and guidance in choosing the proper scope for this project.

M1903 SA 3-29 wearing a C-stock (K) = it has been drilled on the side for a peep sight and lost its collectability so I purchased it to make a M1941 USMC Sniper rifle from it.
I have reached out to the CMP Custom Shop, Steve Earle (bases) for ideas and prices to mount the scope bases.

What I would like from the membership is their thoughts, pro's & con's on the different scopes available...
Leatherwood 8xMalcolm,
Wichester 5a and the supersession Lyman A5....

planned use practice for and hopefully shoot at the winter CMP games in phx for vintage sniper...

thank you all in advance

Steve, I would recommend using a vintage Unertl scope (6X or 8X). They tend to be pricey but a civilian version is far more affordable than a scope with USMC provenance. Rick

Did similar project but rifle is Remington '03 mfg. in '42, just prior to switching over to the 03A3 variant, and easy enough to install Boyd's C style pistol grip stock and for the scope installed the Unertl scope blocks and Unertl scope. Shopping for an 8x Unertl proved to be lot more expensive than I had thought since that power range was supposedly as issued and snapped up by the Vintage Sniper shooter crowd. Well, rifle has no collectable value other than it is an old '03 so I put my 16X Unertl on it which I have had for quite number of years and will say the rifle scope combo makes for a very fine shooting rifle. You can send off your Unertl and have the magnification changed to about whatever you want, but adds dollars again and since I switch the scope from the '03 to my 40X 22, to my Ruger No.1 22-250 I'll leave mine alone. Believe the scope is some 30yrs. old and the rifle is one year older than I am but so far we are able to function as required and in the hands of a skilled rifleman the rifle scope combination in 30Gov't '06 caliber is one potent firearm. Brings a lot of "oohs and aahs" at the range from onlookers.

Thumbs up

New War Horse Added to Stable!!

Take a look at this thread, its my adventure into the USMC 1903. I will say that I'm please with the Leatherwood USMC 8X scope once the bugs were worked out. I could not afford the real McCoy!!!

Good Luck!!
