Spotting scope base/ tripod

I have a good spotting scope, but the tripod sucks. What would be a good base to go with? I'd prefer one that sits on the bench. My range is set up with two benches, so the scope goes on the bench not being shot off of. But any little breeze shakes the scope all over.

Thanks,
Knarley

Thumbs up Stand

Howdy,

I have two suggestions.

One would be an older Redfield spotting scope stand.

Another would be an Al Freeland stand.

Currently I am using a Redfield.

The Freeland stands are superb but pricey, they have not been made in years.

I had two but sold them when I needed some cash.

Keep yer powder dry,

John

If you are shooting from a bench, then a bench mount is better, like the one from Sinclair:

This Sinclair stand is what I use and is excellent for the bench, rock solid and quick to setup.

I seldom shoot from a bench but when I do, I simply move my Champion's Choice tripod scope stand up next to the bench. I feel that there is a lot more utility when one uses a stand of this type. It is pretty adaptable to most applications.

Have a look at gearbuggy if you want a rock solid tank of a stand.

I agree and that's exactly what I do. Most people don't have a scope stand or shoot either "Across the course" or F-class/NRA prone.

The link doesn't come up, but it does take you to gear buggy which is a great stand that I have.Gear buggy uses thicker piping than the others, I think they use 1.25" piping where others are 1". The legs are larger as well. Really well made.
You could fly a flag on this and it ain't moving.

Ray-Vin also make a good spotting scope tripod that is adaptable. You can get a bench top tripod and extend the stand by adding rods for service rifle or just to raise the height of the scope.

This is a link... http://ray-vin.com/tripods/tripods.htm

I have a bench version...

There are lot of good products out there.

Good luck on finding one that fits your needs.
