1-6 power

This is a discussion on 1-6 power within the Optics forums, part of the Gun Forum category; I am looking for a quality 1-6 power scope that will hold up to my M-1A recoil. These rifles are brutal on scopes. Any suggestions?...

First thing to look for is lifetime warranty, the rest is just an opinion.

My 2 cents.

Not a 1x-6x but close, I have been running a Leupold MK4 1.5x-5x on my M1A Scout without issue.

SWFA's 1-6x24mm HD scope is in stock right now. This is a scope I've been researching and from all accounts, it seems to be a really nice, rugged scope with a versatile FFP reticle.

Buy SWFA SS HD 1-6x24 Tactical 30mm Riflescopes at SWFA.com

Due to the action of the M1A/M14 I don't question that they are rough on scopes, but I think the quality of the scopes suffering from such damage may have something to do with that. You could of course take out a second mortgage and buy a high dollar Night Force or similar quality scope and be OK, but most are not willing nor able to spend that much money on optics. I bought a very lightly used Leupold MK 4 10x42 from fine fellow on this site and well pleased and had one some years ago and never had a problem of any sort. Just for information purposes give Leupold or other brands and tell them the use of the scope and see what they tell you and as mentioned if offering lifetime warranty you will be covered. Might want to check out SWFA for one of the variables you mention and their quality is quite high for the dollars invested, they have a good reputation and won't break the bank. Just a suggestion.

I have one of the SWFA 1-6 HD scopes sitting on my bench awaiting me getting off my butt and putting together my Rockolla....... it's built like a tank and I really like the reticle. I can not imagine an M1a breaking that scope. They are expensive, but look for a used one on samplelist.com.

Hey KyAggie, what do you think about the 1-6x scope so far? Is the glass super clear and sharp? How would you feel about the scope for a SHTF rifle?

I was thinking about getting one of these but was also debating getting something with a little more magnification like either the SWFA 3-9x HD or the 5-20x HD.

The glass is superb, at least to me. I also have a Vortex Viper 1-4 and the Super Sniper 1-6 glass is far better. The Viper is not bad for the cost, but there's a noticable difference in between the two both glass wise and in how heavy they are built. It would be a great SHTF scope in my opinion as it is very versatile. It's almost as fast as a red dot at 1x for CQB and you can crank it to 6x for longer shots. If you buy one, you will want the throw lever as well, the power ring is pretty stiff, at least mine is.

I've also heard good things about their 3x9 and it should work pretty well for SHTF, but I would not want a 5-20 for that application, at least not on an M14.

Cool VX6 Leupold

Howdy Buckeroos,

I have a Leupold VX6 1-6 power on one of my M1A's.

It is a great scope and unlike many 1-? power scopes, it actually goes down to one power.

These are not cheap and Leupold has discontinued them and the new model is an "HD" model for a lot more money.

Keep yer powder dry,

John

I have a IOR 1-6 and love it only has about 250-300 rounds thought it so far with no problems although to be expected given such a low round count. I use a ADM one piece so i can switched between a few rifles. It is not cheap and heavy but built like a tank. They also make a 1-10x which I would like to try next. I will update if I remember when I hit 1000 rounds or 200 rounds on the 50 BMG

Not a 1-6x, but I can highly recommend the NF NXS Compact 1-4x24mm. They typically retail from $1300-$1500 depending on which exact model you choose.

Nightforce is also going to release a 1-6x or 1-8x, but sounds like it will be in the ATACR line, which bumps the price up quite a bit over the NXS optics. They are sweet, though. I own 4 of the ATACR F1 4-16x43mm's and a 5-25x56mm F1 is en route.

Never seen NF fall prey to any particular recoil impulse, and NF certifies all their optics for up to, and including, 20mm rifles.
